A ground nest is what caused the Ranch fire last summer in California. A rancher discovered a hornet's nest and tried to drive a metal stake into it to seal the entrance off until he could deal with it permanently. Sparks flew...the rest is history.

Nasty ****. I’ve mentioned here before that my dad lost a dog to these things. He found the nest and they attacked entered his mouth and snout and that was it.

Yellow jackets are definitely the worst. Attacked our dog last year, thank God I was outside with her and was able to get her inside. About a dozen got inside the house, thankfully my allergic wife and daughter did not get stung.

At first I was like, I'm not buying any Funko Pop stuff. Then I saw Ron Swanson and had to have it. Then came John Hammond and Ian Malcolm. Then the entire Die Hard cast. And now these (@tifosi77):

I do enjoy flying as the sun is going down, even if it did mean not getting back home until after 11 last night. Had a great view of this distant thunderstorm on the approach into Philly.

Oh damn, that's outside of my purview on the weird scale.

Well, if you go west from there, that's college kids (if there's any still left)...so unless you're trying to score some under-your-age fresh wool, you'll want to head into center city...which is just over the Walnut Street Bridge...

In terms of weirdness...normally I hit shows, but because Firefly is that weekend (which is where I'll be, otherwise I'd be Set the Tone Malone for your group) all the good acts are there...

There is this second-rate rooftop thing that looks like it could be fun during the day at Golf & Social...all the hot girls will, again, be at Firefly but I'm sure the best of the rest will have a couple of lookers...I don't know if you're a manrocket or not, but you could do worse...

If you're looking for some more laid back stuff during the day, there's obviously a million bars in the Center City area, which is walking distance to where you're gonna end up World Live...so you'd have to give me a theme...if you're looking to keep it kind of classy without paying through the roof: Butcher Bar, Ladder 15 (or whatever it's called), Village Whiskey, and for poor service, a.bar are fine spots...

Divier stuff: Like The Bards, Rogue's Den or Gallery or whatever, Oh Shea's, Victor's...that's gonna be more your speed...

If you're seeing if you can pick up some arm candy for the trip...you could try your hand at Drinker's Pub or Smith's...you'll get the hungry eyes in there virtually any time of day it seems like...

Again, I'm limiting it to stuff that I find to be reasonable walking distance to your venue. Meaning, I'm leaving out the east side of Broad, Old City, etc.

After the show, again, it depends on what you're looking to get into...if you're trying to get some road beef and you can even kind of dance...Franky Bradley's is easy with a low cover - usually like $5, especially before 11 or 12...then you go to the after hours clubs like Voyeur if you need more time or just want to keep the party going...that's pretty standard for hardos. If you're looking to get super weird, I know of somewhere warehouse parties and **** in West Philly, where some rooms have some like Eyes Wide Shut **** going on...but I don't know if that's your speed, or anyone's really...

If you're looking to kind of chill and have fun...Sto's in Old City is a good spot for cheap drinks, they have video games inside, they're playing music videos and they have an outdoor section with that white trash game with the bean bags (I forget what it's called) and giant beer pong using soccer balls and those big outdoor trash cans...plus, there's a bar you can sack up outside and plenty of seating...Old City would also help you out with late night grub too...but there's a bunch of cool stuff in that little area...and you can still crush from that bar easily, but again, I don't know what your intentions are...a 4 on the road is a 10 at home though...

Can't help but feel like taking him to Redbeards on Sixth in Pittsburgh was incredibly underwhelming for him. ;)

 Nonsense, I have a relaxed side for sure...I really enjoyed it, and still managed to sneak in a BDSM reference to that one-gloved barmaid...I'm very adaptable, that's my biggest strength I think...so I can get real fired up and lead people (friends, strangers, whoever) on a four-day bender or I can chill out, have a few tequilas and talk about politics or philosophy...in fact, I've done both of those things in the past 10 days...and then have another four-day bender coming up with a camp-out, music festival...my life is pretty great, all things considered.

Yeah, I'm kidding. That was just a place I knew we could sit and watch hockey without having three people behind us at all times waiting on drinks. A step above the hotel lounge, basically.

jfc @mikey I knew I'd get an impressive response, but damn

Appreciate the list and the humor. Took screenshots and sent them to my buddies so they can get a laugh and an idea of what to do. Last time I went with these dudes to a new city it was NYC and we ended up at a punk bar around 2 PM that had 70s/80s porn playing on old **** TVs, so I'm not sure what is out of the question...

I have nothing to back it up but I don't see how a 4 in Philly is a 10 in Pittsburgh...

Here to help...

Having partied pretty hard here, we have a lot of rocket ships, believe me...I wouldn't guess that Pittsburgh has Philly beat there...quantity matters...

I read this a couple days ago, and it was just so....... inconsequential. A chunk of California the size of Rhode Island went up because there were stinging insects in the ground?

My wife's vow renewal ring was delivered yesterday. It came shipped in a bag, in a padded UPS envelope, in a small UPS box, in a medium UPS box. I've never seen so much waste in shipping products before.
