Most ant traps are made with borax—the same stuff you can buy as a laundry-detergent booster. It's not super toxic, and a pet to be harmed would have to eat a lot more of it than you'd find in an ant trap. For some reason, when ants eat it, it gums up their digestive systems so that they basically starve to death in a couple days. It doesn't do that to other animals. The relatively slow method of killing the ants is beneficial for use in baits because it means that they workers won't die before they take it back to the nest and feed it to the other ants.

They aren’t organized. The approach was a shock and awe attack. You give one of those little snots a big boot to the face right off the bat and the others will cower in fear. Hell pick one up and use them as a weapon. Breaking them mentally would be easy.
