I read on here that the upcoming Mr. Rogers movie is based on a magazine article, and that magazine article describes an acceptance speech that Rogers gave when accepting a lifetime achievement award from The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Here's the video:

Here's a transcript:
Oh, it’s a beautiful night in this neighborhood.

So many people have helped me to come here to this night. Some of you are here. Some are far away. Some are even in Heaven.

All of us have special ones who loved us into being.

Would you just take, along with me, ten seconds to think of the people who have helped you become who you are, those who cared about you and wanted what was best for you in life.

Ten seconds of silence. I'll watch the time.

Whomever you've been thinking about, how pleased they must be to know the difference you feel they've made. You know they're kind of people television does well to offer our world.

Special thanks to my family, my friends, and my co-workers in Public Broadcasting, Family Communications, and this Academy for encouraging me, allowing me, all these years to be your neighbor. May God be with you. Thank you very much.

I'm not sure anyone other than Fred Rogers would have had the "moral capital" to carry off that little speech, but that is one of the best pieces of writing that I've run across in a very long time. Short, powerful, humble—it's just a brilliant example of the English language.

I watch this a couple times a year at least. Just brilliant and 100% genuine. He is one of the few people that could bring the most famous of people to tears with introspection.

Agree. In the recent documentary, his kids say it's like living with Jesus as your dad. The world would be a lot better place if anyone took more direction from him in their daily life. I try, but that's not an easy thing to do. I often wonder if he ever raised his voice or got anxiety or showed his anger. Remarkable human.

I’m so thankful that no deep dark past came around of sex abuse or pedophilia or domestic abuse, etc. In a world where there are no real heroes, Fred Rogers stands above the rest.

My wife and I were both in tears when we saw the Mr Rogers documentary in theaters. I don't think there was a dry eye in the place. What a wonderful human.

I didn’t see it theaters, which was apparently a good thing because I had to pause it twice when watching it at home because I was reduced to ugly crying to the point of not being able to comprehend what was going on in front of my eyes.

@AuthorTony: What gear do you use? Ever give any thought to switching to mirrorless?

I'm still shooting with a Nikon D800. Mirrorless is interesting because of the smaller size but I honestly prefer the feel of a large camera (I always use a battery grip too). Although, as I get older and shoot less, I'm having more trouble nailing focus at slow shutter speeds. I used to be able to hand hold a 200mm lens at 1/60 and get sharp images. Those days are gone. If I was starting anew, I'd probably go with the Sony A7R III. Unfortunately, portrait photography is a dead industry when it comes to making a living and I'm not investing more money in gear unless it's absolutely necessary.

You’re a Nikon guy? I knew I liked you for a reason. A buddy of mine is all-in on mirrorless, owning a few Fuji’s in the past. He finally sold his D750 (same body as mine) and went the A7R III route. I can’t bring myself to spend that kind of money on a hobby, personally.

I started with a D50, then a D80, D300, D700, and now the D800. Honestly, the difference between the 700 and 800 is nominal. I can't imagine the images coming from any camera made in the last 5 years are significantly better than a newer model or different manufacturer. The dynamic range even in the D800 is crazy. I can underexpose an image taken at ISO 1600 2 full stops and still get a perfectly printable image after correcting it. Besides, it's really all about the glass. ;)

I'm in love with the Sigma Art lenses. Would love to buy their 105 1.4 but again, I just can't justify new gear. I use the 85 1.4 Art for 95% of what I do.

This same buddy has been talking Sigma Art up to me for years now. If they had an Art 24-70 when I was looking, I’d have gone that route. Not that I regret my Tamron.

And yeah, the dynamic range was a big factor in me going with the D750. I can’t recall where I saw it, but somebody took a photo of a guitar in damn near pitch darkness. They recovered everything in post and it looked great considering the lighting conditions.

I saw this article the other day that’s pretty exciting: https://gizmodo.com/a-mexican-physicist ... 1837031984

Saw a headline on Twitter where Mia Khalifa is claiming to have only made $12,000 in the adult film industry. That's either a lie or terrible contract management.

Well, my job search has ended. Starting Sept. 9th, I'll be a Quality Project Manager for a surgical robotics company in Pittsburgh.

As part of my onboarding, I will tour a cadaver lab. Which I actually think is kind of cool.
