Just got official approval from ye boss to take the day off for my park reservations, so that's fun. I think I might do the lightsaber thing, that's really hard to pass on for a second run of GE. But i could definitely use some coaching up on using the app and securing ride reservations and maximizing our childless adult park enjoyment. I think I've been to Anaheim probably 7 or 8 times, and I've never done it 'right'.

We were considering getting a hotel room so we could eat dinner at The Blue Bayou. It would be the only reason we get a hotel room for this excursion. Worth it?
We ate there. The atmosphere is way better than the food. It’s super cool to hang out in there, but the food is just okay. Highly recommend staying on property though. We stayed at the Grand Californian and being able to walk out of your room directly to your own private (for hotel guests) DCA entrance was awesome.

Also Blue Bayou was by far the most difficult reservation to get. I had to set up a reservation finder alert at mousedining.com.

Disneytouristblog.com and Disneyfoodblog.com were some good resources for planning and both have tips on how to use the Genie+ app. Be warned that Dfb is more video based with the average length being 30 minutes and I found the main person to be annoying. Dtb has recommendations on what rides to use Genie+ on and I'm what order. Dtb covers Disneyland too, but no sure if Dfb does.

We leave Sunday for Disney. It’ll be my first time. I let mrs meow handle all the planning of things. My involvement was handing her a credit card

I stayed there for my last trip. I don't remember much about the room itself, but it was within walking distance of Magic Kingdom which was nice. You can also take the monorail to Epcot and then take the Skyliner or walk to Hollywood Studios from there but because of the Park Hopper rules you can't transfer from one park to another until after 2 so keep that in mind. I remember the main bldg would shake and get pretty noisy when the monorail arrives/departs. Our room wasn't in the main building though so not sure how it is like if you stay there. It was prior to the construction of Galaxy Edge when my wife had a work conference and we didn't even go to Hollywood Studios then.

Thanks. Good stuff. I don’t think we are doing the park hopper thing. We have four kids under 8, so we are doing one park a day

With four kids under 8 and staying at the Contemporary I would've went for the park hopper. You're going to need to go back to your room for mid-day naps. Post nap or dinner, I'm not so sure you're gonna feel like hopping on a bus to get to Epcot or Animal Kingdom. With park hopper, you could stroll over the MK, ride some stuff and watch the fireworks. Then it's an easy stroll back at the end of the day. You might not do that, but it'd be a nice option.

I've seen way too many parents make that mistake. Your kid will be miserable. You will be miserable. People around you will be miserable.

Clarification: we only have two and my SIL has two. Her kids are weak and need mid-day naps. They can figure themselves out. My two kids have strong jeans and will be fine.

Wait no. Genes.

And we did the park stroller route. I’ll be damned if I’m paying all this money to have a kid sleep in the room for a few hours a day. Just like we nixed the pool day idea. We have a pool. That ain’t happening at Disney.

Going now you might pull that off. I'm usually there in the summer. Parents who push their kids to power through in that heat are masochists.

When we went with the extended family, my neice was licking the rail in line for the seven dwarfs rollercoaster. I wouldn't be surprised to find out if she was patient zero for this covid pandemic. Now you can understand why I got loaded in Epcot and bullied Aladdin out of the picture with Jasmine.
