I thankfully only ever had to deal with this as a coach. I was a bit more.... what's the word..... confrontational with the parent. I did not follow your advice, per se. Mostly because I got the overwhelming sense that this particular parent only understood icing in the sense of birthday cake. It was sort of a read-the-room type of thing, but it ultimately ended well. That's garbage. But this does happen. I've been on the business end of this conversation more than a couple times, both as a coach and as a ref...My in-game voicemail (from a parent whose kid was IN THE GAME) ended with "you and me, we got a problem."Ah, welcome. Wait til they come at you with the dual stopwatch proof...
I can't even
I jump on these right away and set the ground rules. The "here's the deal..." conversation should happen (not in those words), don't let it fester. I would get your talking points together, practice them, practice the words you choose and make sure that you don't elevate your voice or give them anything that will inflame the situation...most of the time, this will just extinguish the issue...don't come at it from an authoritarian perspective, just come at it as a partnership and there's a way to do it where they get what they want out of it and you still win...
If you ever want to role play, let me know...also, we can talk about this conversation you're going to have with the parent too...

Somebody called 'Zoltron' liked a Facebook post of mine today. I'll think I'll call it a week.
Edit: I have spoken too soon, for we have a pending group add request to Cook With Joule by someone called 'Anoos'.

Massive layoffs at my company scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. And I'm extremely concerned for my job, as technology is supposed to be hit hard.
I will get a severance package, but I still hate this.

Blargh...that's tough news...I think I speak for everyone here when I say I hope it works out for you and you're able to step on the faces of your peers-turned-enemies on your way to the top of the heap...

They are leaving you (and your division) twisting in the wind for possibly 4 days?
I’d be looking elsewhere even if I was retained.

Yeah, that's pretty odd to have it happen on a Monday or Tuesday.

Our layoffs always happen on a Monday/Tuesday. It's due to how our fiscal processing is done.
And I am looking, everyone I know is. I know that even if I survive this round, there is no guarantee I will survive the next.

Yeah, that's a great point. I own a lot of colorful clothing...but orange is just not a popular one in my closet...I think I have one button up that I leave open as a means of layering that has some oranges and reds in it, but I wear it approximately 1.75 times per year...it's actually on the "I wouldn't move with this piece of clothing" side of the closet...

When I have a decent tan, I have a peach colored shirt (is that orange?) that looks good.

Peach is not orange. Peach is peach. It's peach season.

I used to have a beautiful orange fabric button up 60's short sleeve shirt with a plaid pattern in the background that I found at a thrift store before ebay vultures arrived on the scene. I wish I still had that.
