From what I remember, they were cooked in some way but not fried. Maybe boiled?we did the side by side Pat's and Geno's comparison in Philly just to do it. I didn't detect any "weirdness" in the onions

This is correct.I repeat, both Pats and Geno’s are pure trash. I’d go to just about any pizza shop for a cheesesteak before I ever even thought about slumming it there.
Chick’s Deli in Cherry Hill frequently ranks very high.
Donkey’s Place in Camden was the favorite of Anthony Bourdain (RIP). But it’s a bastardized version of a “real” cheesesteak.
Campo’s used to be great now they are just good.
Jim’s has become more touristy, but I still enjoy it after a few hours wandering the city.

We did Delassandro's (sp?) this time. I've had Pats and Geno's before and know they are tourist trash. I've had Joes and Tony's. Just don't like 'em...

Ah, I've had them before. Probably middle of the pack, IMO.

I’ll never try any of these places because why would I ever want to go back to Philadelphia?

Dalessandro's is great. My personal favorite though--off the beaten path in Bala Cynwyd (although only about two minutes from the Surekill Expressway)

It has been over ten years since I was in Philly, but I remember Campo's being good. Bummer to hear that they've waned.
But I sill maintain that the roast pork sandwich is the better food ambassador than is the steak sandwich.

I certainly prefer roast pork sandwiches, that's for sure. One of the best ones in the city was from Jake's Sandwich Board, which changed to a **** egg/chicken place a few years ago.Source of the post But I sill maintain that the roast pork sandwich is the better food ambassador than is the steak sandwich.

Usher got dollar bills made with his face on them and went to a strip club and used them all night. Besides screwing the dancers out of real money that's legendary

The difference here is that Arthur Bryant’s, etc is still terrific BBQ, whereas Pats and Geno’s is trash. You’ve been to the Filling Station and other little joints that have racked up American Royal titles. The skull of a Purussaurus, one of the biggest crocodiles to have ever lived
It was about 35 feet long – twice as long as a saltwater crocodile and it weighed around 3 tons, making it about twice as heavy as one as well. It had a large tail which it could swat animals with and had loads of razor-sharp teeth in its 5-foot long skull. It not only looked like a larger version of modern crocodiles but it also probably moved as fast as one. It has been estimated that Purussaurus probably could have moved at a speed of about 16 miles per hour in the water.
