The restaurants that make you pay cash unless your bill is more than 15 bucks. What the **** is their problem?

$15 would be the highest I've ever seen. Which restaurant is this?

I typically see $10 as the limit.

Those are mostly blackballed for me...I think we work near each other, so Pastrami n' Things on 18th is a $10 floor for instance...so they get much less business for discriminating against my card that collects double miles at fooderies...
Though, most weeks I'm just eating like a rabbit anyway, so this has a dwindling effect on my peace of mind...but in the weeks where I'm going to the gym a bunch, and need real food and not the cucumber, tomato, yellow pepper, micro arugula, black plum, blueberries lunch that I had today, I dance around these places pretty adeptly...
A place near my apartment that has wraps, I'll often just tell them to charge me an extra 25 cents to leave me alone...it's much cheaper and more convenient than going to an ATM and I'm always willing to pay for convenience...

A business pays fees for the processing of credit cards, and they probably just don't want to pay the fees for small purchases.
I don't see it much today, but in the past I remember a fair number of gas stations having a "cash" price that was slightly lower than the "credit" price.

Did they tell you upfront about the $15 minimum, or did you find out when you received the bill?

Ahh, I was thinking it was someplace near center city, since I'm in the same general area for work.

Yeah, I've seen that (is it on 19th though?) but haven't patronized it. I don't know what your palate is...but...i'm going into the office more these days. having trouble finding good lunch spots. that new wokworks food truck on 20th an market is pretty good, though. Those are mostly blackballed for me...I think we work near each other, so Pastrami n' Things on 18th is a $10 floor for instance...so they get much less business for discriminating against my card that collects double miles at fooderies...

For salads and the like (they have "warm bowls" and some other stuff too, but they often have things I can't eat and I like to make as few substitutions as possible) I like Just Salad (Chestnut between 17th and 18th)...smoke show city in here between 12 and 1, by the way...
For a bigger, less healthy wrap I go to that Food Emporium on Market between 20th and 21st...I forget what it's called, something British sounding...but I just call it the food emporium because they have a salad section, a hot grill section, soup, pasta, wraps, sandwiches, desserts, baked potatoes the size of toddlers...they have a lot...but they have a wrap special for like $7 that comes with a good sized wrap, a small side and a pickle that's a pretty good deal...
For healthier wraps, I like Smart Street (19th & Market)...also, not bad in terms of "talent" that comes in...
Pastrami n' Things is nice if you want to sit and read the paper while listening to classical music without virtually anyone around you...that's a good decompress spot for me when needed...but they have a $10 floor, so again, kind of blackballed but extremely friendly service though...
Staying with cash, the Caribbean food truck on 18th between Market and JFK on the west side of the street in front of Devon & Blakely's is a great value...you can big ol thing of chicken, mac n' cheese and collard greens for like $7 and it comes with a water.
If I go to the gym in the morning, it's very often that I ended up at Cleavers (18th between Chestnut and Sansom...maybe? Yeah, that sounds right) as they have hearty wraps and milkshakes with booze in them...
Those are spots that I think I fairly regularly get to when I don't have my rabbit breakfasts and lunches...

Yeah...$6 drinks (up from $5) and a lack of untamed outdoor space has really priced people out...I did see a chick pass out the other week, but it seemed unrelated to drinking...
It was ****** Mardi Gras the last couple years...now it's a little bit more professional...I have mixed emotions about it haha

Yup...I don't have the patience for that. Or seriously...just raise your prices thirty cents across the board. I won't mind (or probably even notice) and you will make double money on cash users. Those are mostly blackballed for me...I think we work near each other, so Pastrami n' Things on 18th is a $10 floor for instance...so they get much less business for discriminating against my card that collects double miles at fooderies...

I generally don't have a problem with the practice, as it's almost always at some sort of mom-and-pop place, usually a restaurant, that I'm specifically seeking out.
The way it was explained to me, it varies depending on processing method, but when you see those x$ minimums it generally means the business is using a processing method that sets its rates based on ticket value. If two businesses run the same amount of total ticket value, but one business has that split into say 300 transactions, and the other has it split into say 30 transactions (e.g. higher individual ticket value). The one with 300 transactions will be paying something bonkers like 1000% more in processing fees on the same overall intake. That is a gargantuan difference, and hence the $10 minimum to get the average ticket value up. Simply raising prices X amount won't do that, unless you raise them such that you're all but guaranteeing most tickets will meet the minimum to trigger the lower rate, which is likely going to be more than $0.30 per item on a menu.

My best friend is getting married next fall... definitely need to figure out a bachelor party plan for him. Thinking about Miami/Ft. Lauderdale while the Pens are playing the Panthers.

I have BP's in Nashville and New Orleans, plus a live fantasy draft down the shore (actually on the heels of the Nashville trip), and a like secluded, get-away, lake house thing or whatever somewhere up in New York all in the next like 6 or 8 weeks I think...plus, my normal day to day debauchery. Gotta make use of my summer days where I'm only working one job...during hockey season, I'm working three...and you can't get a refund on time...use it or lose it, boys...
EDIT: Oh, and a trip to Tampa to see one of my best friends...that's in there somewhere too...
