So having looked at maps of Alaska and tried to discern what is and is not a state highway, and knowing where you have said your in laws live, I am guessing NY-17 which goes from the PA line at Findley Lake in Chautauqua County, through Or near Jamestown, Salamanca, Olean, Bath, Corning, Elmira, Binghamton, then out through the Catskills and has its eastern end at the Thruway south of Newburgh. PA line to Binghamton and maybe further is I-86, the Southern Tier Expy.

Just a guess.

I also looked to see if there was a state highway that goes all the way out to El Paso and doesn’t look like it. I-10 in Orange, TX is the highest exit no I have ever seen, believe it is 896.

Yeah, not even close. It’s the longest in NY though and the longest on the east coast.

I would've thought 40 is the longest in PA.

On a completely unrelated note, the fireflies have been notably more active this year in my neck of the woods. I'm sitting on my patio and it's like flashbulbs going off in the dark. Can't remember a show like this going back a decade at least.

What's it been like in yinz neck of the woods?

They have been picking up lately but till this week there had just been one or two around the backyard. These little critters are one of my favorite things in the summer.

They're all throughout the woods behind my house.

I recall going to morkle’s house about a decade ago and watching juice, Canaan, and he eat lightning bugs. If memory serves, Shad and I declined the invitation to partake.

And I'd be wrong.

18 comes right into the heart of Hermicash, didn't know it was the longest in the state though
TIL about route 18 being the longest in PA. I figured the longest route in PA was north south since all the major east west roads are state roads. Didn't realize 18 was the only PA route to actually travel from the southern border to the northern border though

My wife made mention last night how many lightning bugs were in our backyard compared to the last few years.

6-7 years ago, we were driving through WV at night on the way to or from Canada. We drove through miles of lightning bugs at 80 MPH, and at times there were so many, it looked like we were jumping to hyperspace. Sadly, their guts glow as well.
