You don't ever want to refer to anyone over 18 as a girl in a professional setting. That would really set some woman off.I think I only use the term “woman” for someone older than me. Feels weird using it for a coworker my age, for example.
The term “guy” exists when “man” seems weird. We don’t have an equivalent in the other direction so we’re stuck with “girl”…which also feels weird.
I never have the need to use either label at work, somehow.
