Yeah I'm a hundred percent on the conspiracy theory that Africa (including Rome and Egypt) had contact with South America well before Columbus

Alaska is both the westernmost and easternmost state. (There are roughly a dozen island in the Aleutian archipelago that are on the other side of the 180 meridian)

I got my Domain of the Golden Dragon card out in the Aleutians. Another cool experience was steaming between Big Diomede Island (Russia) and Little Diomede Island (USA) in the middle of the Bering Strait, the closest point between the two nations.

Is that like being a shellback in the Navy, but for crossing the 180 meridian?

:thumb:

Shellback is the only one I never got. Got my Order of the Blue Nose, as you can imagine, around that same time.

Haha..... just went to el gippy and did a search for "shellback".

From 2012:
"I did have to go into the water for the Arctic Circle initiation...words can't describe."
"Shaf, is that Arctic thing similar to the Shellback ritual when crossing the equator?"
"Precisely. The other major one (which I experienced out in the Aleutians) was entering the "Realm of the Golden Dragon", or crossing the International Date Line. Those are the three biggies."

Tif, did the AI implant the interwebs directly into your core processor or what? How tf you remember stuff like that from 8 years ago is mind boggling to me.

This is exactly what I was talking about re: remembering dialogue and scenes from Planes, Trains, and Automobiles when I hadn't seen the movie in 20+ years. But remember what I had for dinner last week? Forget it.

What's less amusing is that I have the inverse power. I can tell when tif is repeating, ahem, paraphrasing his own story from years ago.

Sounds like when my kid gets into trouble, she has no idea what she did at that time an hour ago. She remembers throwing cake at me when she was three, though.

It's like Memento, but less narratively compelling. ;)
