This is pretty cool.
So yesterday, a huge yacht was being transported through Altoona of all places. It was being moved from Baltimore harbor to Lake Erie; they had to use state routes because the underpasses on the interstates are too low, and the Welland Canal is closed to pleasure craft.
Some cool posts on the transport companies page. And some funny comments yesterday in the Altoona Facebook group about the yacht being transported to Glendale @MrKennethTKangaroo

Thanks to DoorDash, I may stop going to most restaurants in general once this stuff is behind us.

I read one of those companies makes it tough for the restaurant to make money and if you tip give the driver cash.

I’m 99% sure that’s GrubHub. Perhaps @tifosi77 knows for sure? I have been tipping well over 20% during covid.I read one of those companies makes it tough for the restaurant to make money and if you tip give the driver cash.

All of the gig economy delivery services bone the restaurants. (And drivers make as little as $3-$4 an hour in some instances) Order from the business directly whenever possible.
Services like Instacart flag the tip to the driver when the order is made. But the tip isn't charged until 24 hours after the order, and during lockdown there has been a spike in people placing orders with big tips and then cancelling the tip after the delivery is completed.

Maybe I'll cut down the tip in the app and then leave cash at the door.

all of those services take money away from the restaurants though some more than others. we've always made sure to just call our order in and go by the restaurant to pick it up to keep more money in the pocket of the small business.

Well, the point of it for me is to not go and pick up the food.

Yeah. If they don't make enough, they don't have to use the service..

That’s where I’m at with this.Yeah. If they don't make enough, they don't have to use the service..

Sometimes the services post their menus and order from them without agreements or authorization. Any issues with the deliveries can then reflect badly on the restaurant.

I'm too cheap to pay for delivery. A tip is fine.

I don’t pay any delivery fees with DoorDash, which is one reason why I use it. Mind you, I don’t use it for my local pizza shop, as they don’t charge any fees for delivery or anything like that. DoorDash just gets me access to restaurants that generally don’t provide delivery services in the first place.

NTP66 doesn't care how the sausage is delivered.

All in all, I just want a reliable service to be able to use. DoorDash has filled that need for me.

Quip aside, I am with you. I tip stupid well though, mainly because I am in a place in life where I can. Delivery makes no sense for me from a financial standpoint.

Speaking of DoorDash, I had an unfortunate experience on Friday. I was in the mood for Five Guys since I haven't had it since the **** hit the fan...
Ordered, everything seemed fine. After about 20 mins, I hear a notification sound on my phone, which I assume is it notifying me that the order is on the way.
Nope... it is verifying that I cancelled the order. I dont know wtf happened. I was immediately both pissed because I wanted my damn burger, and also kind of annoyed because given the time that had passed, the food was probably made already and the driver may have already been at the store. So aside from not getting my food, I may have pissed off the store and driver... not what I was trying to do.

Weird. I have only had one issue with DoorDash to date, and it was a restaurant literally forgetting to cook half of our meal. Not the driver's fault, but the manager said he'd refund the entire meal for me. Nice. Waited a week, no refund, so I called back. They said I had to contact DoorDash (lol). So I contact them, and they refunded just the items that didn't come. At the end of the day I'm fine with that, but that's not what the manager said. Every other order has been smooth, and every driver has followed instructions (leave food at the door; I'll see you on my Ring doorbell).Speaking of DoorDash, I had an unfortunate experience on Friday. The way most fast food orders are processed on orders made via these delivery apps is different. The order isn't actually placed at the restaurant until the driver gets there, and they place the order on your behalf and pay with a special debit card. (When you pay through the app, you are actually paying the service, who then pre-loads the balance onto the driver's debit card so they can pay in person.)

Interesting. Wonder if it's possible that the driver decided eh, dont feel like driving there and canceled it or something. The way most fast food orders are processed on orders made via these delivery apps is different. That can happen TWC, but sometimes a driver cancelling an order' pauses' their ability to accept other deliveries, so it isn't super common.
