Shot a squirrel today that had one of these under its skin. Thing was still alive when I was skinning the squirrel.

I'm more curious what you use squirrel skin for, and how difficult that is to peel off. Also, have you ever peeled a squirrel that turned out to be alive, and what did it sound like? Asking for a friend.

You take the skin off in order to clean out the guts and then cut up the carcass for use in stew or other meals that require small chunks of meat. On a decent sized squirrel you can get 8 oz. or so.
Skinning is not terribly difficult with a sharp knife.
I cut their feet and tails off before skinning so never had that problem.

I grew up in the sticks and never knew what a warble fly was. Kind of wish I still didn't know. Similar view on bot flies (thank you Internet)

My dad smashed a fly on his bedroom ceiling with a hat and "left it as a warning" and that thing was there for at least 3 years

When I first moved to LA my roommate and I trapped a cockroach and burned it with aerosol and a lighter. I spiked it with a toothpick and we left it out in the living room, Vlad Țepeș style. So I can sympathize.
