But, yeah, you would kill a baby elephant, if you could get away with it?
Even assuming for the sake of argument I were personally interested in trophy hunting (and I'm not*), what possible sport would there be in shooting a baby elephant?

* To be clear, I support well-managed trophy hunting because it funds and supports wildlife conservation and provides a strong economic incentive for local residents to protect and manage those species. The same holds true here in the United States; much of the money for wildlife conservation comes from hunting-license fees and the Pittman–Robertson excise tax on firearms and ammunition, which was raised more than $2 billion for conservation over its history. I am not personally interested in trophy hunting for various reasons, including (1) I can't afford it; (2) I have minimal interest in visiting Africa; and (3) I sunburn like a vampire and hate hot weather. The elephants are safe from me.

What sport is there in killing anything?

I don’t mean to frame this as a truth bomb or some sort of declaration of...anything. I don’t know the details of this topic.

But if you told me my death was ok because it funded the protection of people who aren’t me, I would find that to be bullshit. Elephants aren’t humans. And trophy hunting isn’t ONLY for this purpose. But that still doesn’t sit well.

You kill it, you it eat.
Note that you’ve never met anyone, who has eaten bear.

I long ago queried the gun thread...there were no bear eaters here.

I was invited to a dinner where bear was served two weeks ago. Had a prior commitment but I'm going next year.

I did. it's ok. had a greasier, gamey flavor. You have to really season it for it to taste good.

How bad is DC traffic (coming from Scumerset) on a Friday afternoon? I'm picturing something soul-crushing.

Coming from Somerset? It depends. Coming down 270, traffic will be coming the other way. But if you are trying to drive either east or south on the beltway? Good luck.

I'd be going to the Convention Center this coming Fri. It's a holiday weekend too so I'm thinking that'll make it worse. I'm really not a fan of traffic so I might just skip it.
