I was driving home this morning and saw a middle-aged guy walking down the side of the road. He was using 2 crutches and had a huge brace on his left leg and was shambling along in the pouring rain. There was heavy traffic and I had to drive about 1/5 mile past him before I could pull off. I walked back to him and asked if he needed a ride somewhere. He said he was fine. I asked if he was sure and he said he was. He continued on and I had to wait another couple minutes before there was a break in traffic big enough to allow me to pull back onto the road. In that time, I only saw 1 other person stop to ask the guy if he needed a ride.
I know people are afraid hitchhikers are going to go all Ted Bundy but if the guy was faking, he was putting on a heck of a show. I can't believe, living in a small town with small town values and all that ish, only two of us took a second to offer help.
