That's an area that we need to work on. I can count on one hand how many date nights we've had since our daughter was born. And she just turned 11.

Agreed. We have weekly lunch dates and weekly dinner dates at home after the kid goes to bed. Just been a month or two since we’ve gotten a sitter and went out together.

Source of the post We have weekly lunch dates
Hmm, if this counts, then I can amend my previous statement. We do go out for lunch every once in a while since we both work from home full time. I was thinking more along the lines of having somebody watch our daughter while we go out for dinner.

Our big date night usually involves grocery shopping.

Actually, we're going to brunch on Saturday and probably to the beach. No babysitter because teenagers (who will be asleep anyway).

The important thing is the intentionality behind regularly setting aside some 1:1 time without distractions. If you can't do that (and I recognize that can be difficult to do) then try to at least have time at home where you turn the TV off and just be grown ups together.

This is separate and apart from boom-boom-sexytime.

Mikey trying to figure out how long he's got until the magic runs out
Oh most certainly haha

My wife and I went on two nice dinner dates last week alone...

I'm excited for this alleged drop off in spending forthcoming...
Oh no, when kids come along, the spending multiplies and just goes towards them. groceries with 3 teenagers in the house is comical at this point.

Hahahahaha

You know the reason most married couples stop going out to dinner twice in a week?

Kids...

Yeah, "drop in spending"

Yeah we don't do many "date nights" or at least when we do we don't make a big production out of it, but always find time to just hang out at home after bedtime, regardless of whether or not we're doin it

At most, we'll have one kid...which I know is expensive. But do you know how many "this restaurant's chef hosted this TV show on the Gorge Network and he has a spice weasel named after him!" are near me...? And do you know how many $23 cocktails there are at these restaurants? I'm drinking 300 diapers at a whack...I'm not that worried about it haha

Diapers are the least of the expenses…. And only gets more expensive as they get older. Get a nice drop when daycare ends (if you have to pay for that), but goes back up pretty quickly.

one of the LITT family strategic goals for 2024 was for mr and mrs LITT to go on a date night once per month. 2/2 so far

the idea of going to a $500/plate gala seems so unappealing to me (though I know you won’t have to pay for it yourself). Not that I’m against expensive dinners…but it’s that much because it’s for charity, right? like the food can’t possibly be $500 quality

I’ve had meals that came out to like $200-300 per person. Probably the best was in Mexico City, we went to Pujol (which is an episode on Netflix’s Chef’s Table)…absolutely worth it (same thing with Michael Mina in Vegas). But at a gala I feel like you’d just get some mass produced steak or something. Like I’m thinking wedding reception food which is never really particularly amazing

Yeah... it's a fund raiser. Most of that money goes right to the hospital, not to actually paying for anything. I'm sure the food is decent, but won't be great.

It's unappealing to me as well, which is why I declined to go.

I always feel like hospital fundraisers are like, what? do you know how much healthcare costs in this country? and you want me to "donate" more money????
