Yes, for a failed QB sneak. Like there was zero need to do that entire sequence. Then they wanted to be tough and run it again when that'd been the perfect time to do a fake to throw.

The decision not to challenge was dumb. They were probably also planning on going for it on 4th and he figured they'd have 3 chances to pound it in from the 1. Still, he took points off the board with that call.

This is independent of the situation, but us plebs saying “that’s been the perfect time to do a play action pass”

Like. Don’t you think the defense is also thinking that?

Probably yea, but even that Watt run later in the game, it worked. Why run up the gut three times?

In regards to play action pass, I'd be interested in the amount of times it was called the 7-2 streak, because I can't really remember it being used too much at all.

Not sure if mentioned, but Friermuth diagnosis is a sprain.

No surgery needed. So that’s good.

And this is a whole discussion probably. I’m never in the camp of trying to outsmart other coaches/teams. I think you should try to out execute them. The whole “make adjustments!!” thing is sometimes needed, but like 95% other the time, if you execute your plan better than the other team, you’re gonna win

I just equated it to bad management first, then they rushed into poor playcalling.

Like they got such an embarrassing push on that failed QB sneak because they rushed it. No idea why.

they could run it 100 times out of 100 if they win 7 out of every 9 for all I care

To forego challenging a pretty f**king clear missed score and then follow that up with a rushed playcall and then a turnover is........... I'm a big Tomlin defender, but that was a thunderous brain fart.

coaches bungling in game decisions has always been befuddling to me. A famous one is how poorly Belichick manages the clock in the Super Bowl against the Seahawks. He got bailed out by the Butler interception but it was malpractice before then

like, is coaching truly THAT difficult that even the greats can look floolish times or are they just stubborn old farts who refuse to play Madden to get simulated crunch time game experience? :slug:

Mike Tomlin has coached 274 games as a HC, was an assistant at various levels for 12, and played through college. I don't think Madden is adding much experience

Sure - I guess I'm looking at it from the perspective of giving Kenny solid reps and to read the game different by being able to confuse the defense. It's purely a if he's our guy, make him the guy type deal.

You would think there is somebody smart enough to come up with software that will crunch an algorithm to determine whether a timeout is useful or a replay is worth it. Baseball would have solved this years ago. Since single football games are much more crucial than 1/162 baseball games, it is very dumbfounding.

Wasn’t that play in the final two minutes? Can coaches not challenge them? I honestly don’t know

No you're thinking of the Pickens "incompletion" on the sideline.

I'm actually cool with no challenge if the next 3 plays are sneaks. 0 chance anyone stops 3 straight QB sneaks

There was like a 3 year period with Roethlisberger where they wouldn't sneak. It was insane. It's the best play in football
