I stopped reading at "I think you’re underestimating how difficult it is to be successful in the NFL if you don’t have consistent QB play" given Tomlin had Roethlisberger for 15 of those 16 seasons.

Ben had a bunch of random injuries/a couple bad seasons. Of course it helps having him but it’s not all attributable to Ben

The “He won with Cowher’s players” is BS too. Both of them are 1-1 in the Super Bowl. Records are similar, etc. Using this line as logic means you cannot complain on game day as it’s just the players that play and coaches do jack during the game.

Ben's deal was throwing away the playbook and winning it in the last two minutes by calling all the plays. That's a pretty big part of it. Trusting your future HOF QB to do that is part of coaching and Tomlin deserves that credit; but winning in spite of the game plan is not the best look when evaluating someone as a game planner.

It might be, I don't claim that the argument has merit. The records show that the farther you get away from the Cowher team the less successful the Steelers are. Two years after? SB win. Then a SB loss two years later, then one conference championship trip (loss) since, and now no playoff wins in the last six years. The “He won with Cowher’s players” is BS too. The regular season .500 or better is there every year but the playoff acumen has steadily declined. Going back to what started this conversation, I believe the former excuses the latter. Especially for lazy national media/broadcasters that only have to talk about the Steelers a handful of times a year.

In the Tomlin era here are the QB records.
Ben starts: 247 games, 165-81-1
Non-ben starts: 51 games, 27-23-1
I mean it's pretty obvious the "streak" is attributed to Ben and Ben only

MIMH you also literally proved your counterpoint with your NE comment. Brady made belicheck. Just as Ben made tomlin.

I’m not sure how you make that statement following this season. Of course the games without Ben when Ben was the starter were going to have a lower win percentage. You’re starting a backup. This season there’s a true replacement and the streak continues.MIMH you also literally proved your counterpoint with your NE comment. Brady made belicheck. Just as Ben made tomlin.

He had a good year, did Tomlin. I simply don't care about some sort of "non-losing" streak that coincided with a first ballot HOF quarterbacks career. Its silly.I’m not sure how you make that statement following this season. Of course the games without Ben when Ben was the starter were going to have a lower win percentage. You’re starting a backup. I wonder if I can even name them all.
That's the order I'd put them in.
Obviously I'm missing one, maybe two.

No Dobbs, Maddox was pre-tomlin

Yeah...I originally processed the question as 'Ben era' so I included Maddox for the first few games of his season. My bad on that.

Ask a Browns fan if they’d trade us places. Or Bengals. Or Panthers. Or Commanders, Jets, Raiders, Broncos, Colts, Jags, Texans… basically anybody in the AFC not named the Patriots. And I’m not even going to bother with NFC. Yeah, mentioned that in my original post. Do they have coaches that have been told they're HOF bound? The context here is one playoff win in 12 years.

Pittsburgh fans have to deal with the pirates. At least they have a stable football team.

Although I will say, no one tanks better than the Pens. We’re due for about a 4 year slump/total rebuild and snag a couple generational talents to lead the team to a cup.

I used this term today to mrs meow. Dude is allergic to contact100%. Dude is a puss.I don’t think it has anything to do with Pickett. He’s incredibly soft and is so afraid to take a hit. All his issues stem from that: the drops, the running backwards, the god awful YAC. With his attributes he should be unstoppable out of the slot but he almost never lines up there because he will alligator arm every throwDidn’t watch, but Johnson getting only two catches on 10 targets stood out.
I don’t think he works with Pickett. Just dumping him might improve the offense
