Snoozers in this time slot except NW/Boise. Iowa keeps threatening to make it interesting and failing. ORU getting steamrolled by Duke, damn it.

This 9:55 time slot for the PSU game sucks. Gate/Texas is still at half, I bet it doesn't tip till like 10:20.
Yeah I'm going to try and make it through one half

I've (sadly) watched a ton of PSU basketball in my lifetime and this might be the best game I've seen them play. That win over UNC to get to the Sweet 16 in 2001 was incredible but this was an absolute clinic.

Competition gets much harder on Saturday.

Day 1 Musings:

--I don't ever want to hear an announcer call something a 'freshman mistake'. That was a 5th year player who made that blunder for Virginia today. After today, you have to look at that 2019 title as a fluke, especially since they won the Elite 8 game on a lucky play to get to OT, won the Final 4 game because Auburn fouled a 3-point shooter super late, and won the championship game in OT with the help of a terrible replay review. Bennett's style is just not good for being a tournament favorite.

--Gotta love Princeton's run today. They slowed Arizona down to a crawl and never let their guards do anything. Great coaching out of the Pete Carrill disciple to pull off Princeton's first win since 1998. As for Arizona and my pick of them, I got sucked in by what they did in the conference tournament and totally discounted the mystifying losses they had in the regular season. Way too much talent to come up small like this. 2nd straight year I lose my champion on day 1 because of a 15 seed from Jersey.

--Love seeing Fran McCaffrey get his ass beat. That little dodint can go stare down a mirror and maybe realize he should quit.

--If you live by the 3, you may die by the 3. Penn State has been staying hot with it and they just hammered aTm. Northern Kentucky tried to roll with it in the 2nd half against Houston and went all Habitat for Humanity. Terrible strategy to keep chucking because they had Houston on the ropes and could never push the momentum.

--Hate losing a bet on a free throw with .5 left. I guess that makes up for the win I got a few years ago with that same situation.

--Duke is scary and all the haters who thought they'd go in a lull after K's retirement have to be dreading the way this team has played over the last 6 weeks.

--It's total BS that Auburn is now gonna have a virtual home game against Houston on Saturday. The committee should be shot for setting that up.

--Big fan of Kent State and Memphis tomorrow.

Yeah, Greensboro has no Carolina teams but 9 seed Auburn gets a de facto home game.

There's no reason Iowa/Auburn couldn't have been in Columbus and FAU/Memphis in Birmingham.

That final sequence from Virginia was so bad. Terrible coaching. Type of execution you expect to see from 7th graders

Good day for PSU. In the lead at the wrestling tourney and a big win in March madness.

I read that Shrewsbury’s recruiting class coming in was one of the best in PSU history. Hopefully showing this team can not only make the tournament but get a win (wins?) while they’re there can only help things. Assuming of course he doesn’t leave for Norte dame or Georgetown.

That was a feel good win last night. If you would have told me in January that PSU would win a tourney game... Good stuff.

Texas won’t leave their shooters open tomorrow. aTm had a horrific defensive gameplan for that arsenal.

What happens with Shrewsberry will be an interesting gauge on whether or not the school plans to finally take mens' basketball seriously. I'm sure there's more buzz about it on campus than there's been since 2001 after they administered that beat down last night. Are they going to pay the man or are they going to hit the reset button again and be back to square one, like they've done my entire lifetime?

Even if they try to pay him will Shrewsberry want to take the ND job and go back home to Indiana, or continue what he's built at State? I don't really see the ND basketball job as light years beyond PSU, certainly not immediate future state. His kids seem to be doing great at State High, on the court at least.

Sucks that the two programs I follow most are in the same boat as far as sought after coaches. I'll be disappointed if Shrewsberry goes but if Ed Cooley leaves PC for Georgetown I might seriously lose my ****.

Hopefully he can hit up the transfer portal with similar success that he had with this crop, if so they can stay relevant. I think Pickett was Siena, and then others from Bucknell, Lehigh, maybe rider? Good targets for a program like Penn state.

Pickett- Siena
Funk- Bucknell
Wynter- Drexel
Henn- Denver

So yeah, very well done. Those first two dominated last night.
