I wouldn’t be surprised if it was revealed that Musk retires those Babylon Bee headlines because they’re the same amount of unfunny

tifosi77's thread of Musk

Postby DigitalGypsy66 » Mon Jun 05, 2023 10:32 am

Elon Musk recently said Twitter’s advertising business was on the upswing. “Almost all advertisers have come back,” he asserted, adding that the social media company could soon become profitable.

But Twitter’s U.S. advertising revenue for the five weeks from April 1 to the first week of May was $88 million, down 59 percent from a year earlier, according to an internal presentation obtained by The New York Times. The company has regularly fallen short of its U.S. weekly sales projections, sometimes by as much as 30 percent, the document said.

That performance is unlikely to improve anytime soon, according to the documents and seven current and former Twitter employees.

Twitter’s ad sales staff is concerned that advertisers may be spooked by a rise in hate speech and pornography on the social network, as well as more ads featuring online gambling and marijuana products, the people said. The company has forecast that its U.S. ad revenue this month will be down at least 56 percent each week compared with a year ago, according to one internal document.

These issues will soon be inherited by Linda Yaccarino, the NBCUniversal executive whom Mr. Musk named Twitter’s chief executive last month. She is expected to start the job on Monday, four people familiar with the situation said.

Ms. Yaccarino declined to comment through a spokesman. Mr. Musk did not respond to a request for comment.

I've also noticed that even when I block promoted post accounts, that these blocks do not always last long. They usually show up later in the day, which is frustrating. I've been getting a lot of the weird kitchen and toy gadget Tweets in replies.

Funny, I started getting foam RC plane ads on FB last week, and honestly thought about buying one.

Do they still run on some sort of liquid fuel or did they move up to being battery powered?

Definitely easier to find battery powered ones these days, IMO.

I had battery powered Tamiya R/C cars back in the 80s. Really fast, and charging was pretty quick. The gas ones were more expensive, so I didn't bother with those.

I had both the red and yellow versions of the Tyco Baja Bandit, and it was my favorite RC vehicle ever.

I had the RC car that was a low profile racer or a lifted version of it if you hit a button on the controller. Last all of like 5-10 minutes per use.

One of the random pop culture/movie review YT channels I subscribe to recently ran a paid segment sponsored by Adam & Eve, and that screwed up my recommendations and social media targeted ads for like 2 weeks.

That's actually a major shift and will have a pretty big ripple effect in the industry. I'm also currently working on an EV infrastructure course and only one of the engineers that I interviewed mentioned Tesla's network, so personally this news creates a lot of additional work. Damnit, Elon.

I started seeing Pissbaby Jr. tweets yesterday even though I've muted him/her/it in the past. Had to do it again.

The dust that "destroyed" Port Isabel has been analyzed. It wasn't concrete. It was sand.
