TIL Troy hates 11 year olds

This is so cool to see. He's gonna get so much attention now, there's no avoiding it. But I think Tiger will help him better than anyone could knowing he's been there. I don't think he'd have him in a televised event if the time wasn't right.

I wanna know how an 11 year old is sitting 175 to the pin on his send shot on a par 5. Is golf going to be too easy for this kid?

I think this event is a scramble, so likely playing off Tiger's drive

All 3 shots were his own. He was playing the forward tees which must have been way forward.

On that particular hole, Charlie had close to a 150-yard teebox advantage. With it being rock hard out there, his ball flight is such that he got a lot of roll. Today when they played that hole, Tiger didn't even hit his tee shot because he figured that it was pointless unless Charlie hit it sideways.

As for Tiger's postround quotes about Charlie, I expected him to be smiling and gushing with pride but he was very measured about it and I guess that's to protect Charlie from getting a big head or anything like that. From a parenting standpoint, that's probably a good idea so when Charlie goes back to the junior circuit, he's doesn't become someone that the other kids won't like.

BTW, Elin still looks good.

I think Tigers been pretty measured with Charlie being that he made it to 11 with that swing and just now being seen.

That's disgusting. And peeing on a tree is a great feeling.

finding a good spot to pee (that's out of the way so other people don't see you but that's not too deep into the woods) is one of my favorite golfing pastimes

I go with strategic cart positioning usually. But depending on how many beers that quickly turns into "off the side of the tee box"

One of my favorite parts about the golf course is that its one giant pisser.

I like that it has a screw top so you can save it and drink your pee later.

I’ve had two swing lessons; latest one was yesterday

I’m so glad I’m doing it because I’ve played golf for ~18 years (since I was 11 or so) without any lessons so I finally get a chance to be attentive about my swing

But man it’s weird. Trying to break years and years of baseball swing habits

I tried to teach myself how to hit a draw last week at the range after watching a handful of YouTube videos. In the course of that endeavor I took a slow motion video to see if I was keeping my hands back. I was definitely not doing what I thought was correct, and I think I was able to diagnose it as hanging back. So I got myself some lessons for next week, I am off of work until the 4th, figured this was a good time to devote to something like tht.

I spent 2 winters working w scott at the willows driving range in plum to get a grown up swing. He does a good job. My only thought on hitting a draw is that it has more to do with grip and backswing than anything else

I want to work on my swing but I dont even know how to go about finding an instructor. Anyone have advice?

Yeah, the basic mechanics are pretty straight forward, aim right, have the club head aimed at the target at impact and make sure the swing is in to out. I think for me, I the one thing that I took away from my lessons as a kid was to keep the grip firm with the left hand, which I believe is the "strong grip" and doing that actually provides a bit of a natural draw, but I have the propensity to turn it too far in and hook. When I leave the club head open is usually when I swing too hard and I'll sail one right. So watching the draw videos helped me understand some basic things about why the ball does what it does. But when I try to draw, it's definitely not like going to twist around a tree or anything, it'll just turn slightly left in the air, and not sail right.

But, I am definitely about as far as possible from figuring out all this stuff. I did have a bit of an "aha" moment yesterday on a short par four though. It was around 320 yards with the green behind some woods on the right, but where you'd have to really crush it straight to hit it through the fairway. Smart play would probably be a 5-iron, then full PW, but I hit the driver, loosened my grip a bit and got it to fade along the fairway and left a <50 yard approach from the middle of the fairway.

Geez, no phone call? I'm joking. I've only played the Watson course there twice and I had more than my share of sand to last me a while. At least you got a couple of decent weather days here. I remember the wind being a bit rough out there too, though, that was when there wasn't as much building around there. I think it's a bit more built up since the last time I was out there 4 years ago.

Ha I was playing with some guys on mini tours so that was eye opening. I expected seeing 320 off the tee but 250 iron shots are just unreal the way they fly off the club. Yesterday was windy af but today was calm. We played Watson today and I was pretty sure we were on the beach. Palmer yesterday. Nice and fun courses but nothing real remarkable. Just nice to have a couple days on the course in the sun

Update. Went back and played a few rounds again. Played a couple with a chick bouncing between symetra tour and the mini tours and holy moly she flies her driver 280 and it's depressing. Side note I'm in love

If you ever get the chance to stand on the range at an LPGA event or go to a tournament, you'd be impressed by their talent. And their tee shots are often more accurate than the men's side.

I'm not doxxing my new girlfriend. Anyway I thought we'd be similar distances, she would just be way more precise. Then she put one out 310 or so on #1 and I felt shame

It's also amazing what making contact consistently in the center of the club will do for distance.

Not trying to speak for your contact dispersion ulf, but tour players are just at another level. I think if we all hit the sweet spot every time we'd see a pretty good jump in distance all around. But alas, we're mere peons to the golf pros of the world.
