Not there this week but both Rory and DJ have been on record as saying it's a proper test and a good golf course. If anything, almost all of these guys can use this as a prep for Winged Foot because that is going to look very similarly to this carnage.

Great final round so far. Never heard of Joaquin Niemann until today.

I golfed for the first time this weekend since that happened. Course back home was soaked, which may have helped me on a few shots since the greens there are usually rock hard. Ball actually stayed on the green vs taking one hop and going either 10 ft off the green or rolling off the front.

Two holes in the middle of my round ruined what was an otherwise good day.

89 yesterday.

Pro:10 greens in reg
Con: 41 putts 2 penalty strokes

Edit: I know no one cares about the marsupial's golf game but jumping jesus on a pogo stick i'm a mess. The last three rounds i played, I hit 7, 9, and 10 GIR and shot 84, 88, and 88. Hitting 48% of greens in reg puts you in the mid to low single digits in terms of handicap. Meanwhile I've averaged like 36 or more putts a round which is what 28 handicap players do.

So in conclusion, i should be shooting in the 70s based on greens in reg and putting like i should be shooting 100+. Vince Lombardi sums this up pretty well:

That is the problem. Ignorance is bliss. Up until this year i never really kept track of stats and didnt keep a real handicap so I didn't realize how crappy that putting really is. I was happy any time i shot in the 80s and that was that. I knew i was bad at lag putting but in context it is REALLY REALLY bad.

I'm taking a half day and playing old sonewall this afternoon. Never played it, but obviously that course is hard AF, so I'm sure this newfound knowledge of my own ineptitude is going to result in a disaster.

I had 4 three putts and still managed an 86 today at Hilton Head National. Had an eagle chance on the one par 5 (missed by about 6 inches to the right), but went 7-8 on the other two. Can't have that.

Real test is Wednesday. Trying to figure out if more money will be spent on the round or buying merch in the clubhouse.

Since you are all emotionally invested in my golf game: 92 at stonewall. 35 putts (better) 3 penalty strokes (bad). 4 greens in reg.

As far as the course goes:

-It is more fair than it looks, at least from the whites. From the blues? Hard pass.
-I feel like the more you play it, the more likely you will play it well. I suppose this goes for most courses, but that is especially true.
-It is garbage that they don't have a net on 18 to protect from the driving range. $180 per round on weekends (much less on a monday at 3) and you have to sort through balls on the right side of the fairway? Amateur hour

I was waiting for this last night. It's not a course that's too tough to play, and I think you could score pretty well on it if you're playing well. If not, will be a long day getting in a lot of trouble. It's funny thinking about the number of putts - in my mind, averaging under 2 putts a hole is pretty good, but you probably need under 30 to score really well. Which is hard to think about having to one-putt 7 of the 18 holes.

Its not tough but you gotta be on your game. Looking back, not knowing the course cost probably 3 or 4 strokes. but the only two holes that stuck out as really REALLY tough were two par 3s: #5 and #15. Those two holes require longer clubs and zero room for error. Otherwise, if you drive the ball well enough, you won't be hopeless.

I'm not sure there are 7 greens on there where you can reasonably get a ball close enough for a one putt on a regular basis. you would either have to be having a gr8 day around the green or balls of steel to go after some of those pins. Even if you do go after the pins, there is enough undulation that makes it really really tough.

I am playing "conley resort" soon. Is it a dog patch?

IIRC #5 is that one where you're hitting 170-180 with water short/right, correct?

I'm not sure I've ever hit the green on that one. I got lucky once on 15 and thinned a 5 iron to about 12 feet.
