the better the course, the less Fall is an issue because they're cutting the rough daily and blowing leaves away. Cheaper courses will pile up and make things difficult. PM tee times will be tough regardless though, so hopefully it's an early tee time

I'm always over the green and my chip onto the green always ends up back down in the fairway. I'm usually pretty level headed about the fact that I suck and will always suck and need to stay chill and enjoy the day out on the course, but that hole is infuriating.

Used my 2nd string gift card to buy a new putter today, went with the most "forgiving" putter according to the internet (Taylor Made Spider). I had 6 three putts yesterday and all but one were because I mishit the first putt leaving them pathetically short.

That's what I ended up buying as a gift to myself for getting cleared to golf again. It was going to be either a new driver or a putter, but my driver isn't all that old. It's a 2017 M2 that I had reshafted to a stiff about two years ago, so I really shouldn't need to replace it for awhile. My putter was an Odyssey knockoff from the 90s that I don't really mind but have always wondered if a better putter would help take a stroke or two off my game.

@dodint this was 10/14 last year. Hopefully the leaves are similar on the 24th this year, it's a beautiful course. Hard as ****. But enjoy it

So how long is that hole, and how far is it to clear the gap?

Well we play the tips on that hole because of the view. The picture doesn't really accurately show the vertical drop well. It's 474 from the tips and about 200 to clear, but with the slop it probably plays under 400 and an easy clear

From the whites it is about 240 yards to the mushy brush stuff in the middle of the fairway. Ya boy kangaroo put together a 92 at stonewall but did manage to birdie that hole (16?)

I'm pretty happy with those selections, although like dodint said, would have loved to see Na get in. Dude has been playing some great golf. Kisner's stats are not great..I love the guy and he's a phenomenal putter, but this was a down year for him.

I think Na would have been pretty bad at Whistling imo. Good guy, arguably deserving, and I would have been happy for him but I think he's just a bad match for the course

Does anyone use a blended iron set? I've been mulling over the idea of doing game improvement from 4i-7i then doing a step closer to player-style short irons from 8i-PW.
Basically, G425s for long irons and i500 or i59s for short irons. I'm confident if I keep working I'll make use of the more aggressive irons even if I'm not quite there yet. With this combo specifically, I can have the G425s bent to retro loft spec and the gapping will be correct, at least by loft (not sure about effective distance).
I'll talk to my fitter about it but I'm curious if this is worth putting more thought into.

Worked a split shift today so I had the chance to take my new driver to the indoor and outdoor ranges and compare it to my old one.

Cleveland Launcher XL Lite 10.5 w/45" stiff shaft (-1" accuracy spec) (2021)
v.
Ping G20 9.5 w/45.75" stiff shaft (2011)

I warmed up with a 5i and also took an equal number of unmonitored shots with both drivers. Then I took 6 shots with each, dropping the worst from each to make 5:


Ping (Red) v. Cleveland (White)
Target is 225yds out and 30ft wide.

The longest drive was nearly identical, 228y to 229y with the Cleveland slightly longer.
The Cleveland gained 13y on average over the Ping, however.
The Cleveland dispersion was 51y compared to 82y for the Ping.

So, the Cleveland is slightly longer and produces a slightly tighter grouping than the older driver. Good to know it wasn't a complete waste of money, but it also didn't exactly refurbish my driver game either (it wasn't going to).
When I put the old driver away and did a larger sample size with just the Cleveland the numbers improved a bit, stretching the average and long drive a few yards (219y and 233y respectively).


I think it's a good sign that I went from a 9.5 to 10.5 loft driver and gained a bit of distance and accuracy. This was while swinging conservatively, only about 92mph clubhead speed. I can swing as high as 102 and I'm guessing this driver in this configuration with that swing will exceed 280y.

Taking it to the outdoor range is where I felt the most difference, though. The ball really just rockets off the face of the new club. I'm hitting some towering drives that I wasn't hitting before. They're still slicing like mad but they are on a stunning arc when they do; unfortunately, they're landing 70y offline to the right. I really, really admire a low drive that climbs forever, but that's not accessible to me at this time. I think I can use this club for a few years and really build a nice, accurate swing.

I can't take this on course right now but I'm excited at the prospect of using it to build towards a workable driver swing.

Did you get The Grint after we played? Did I waste an attest opportunity? I don't play often with other Grint users so my attest rate is down to 10%.

Yep, decided to just shell out for the Pro for a year. Is it considered bad form to have someone you didn't golf with attest? I am certainly not fudging scores, but I don't want a round to not count.

All the rounds count*. The attest % is just a measure of credibility. In England they do have a requirement to meet a certain threshold for scores to count, but the WHS implementation in the US as is done by The Grint does not have that requirement.

*This is to mean no rounds are excluded because of attestation. Rounds that count towards your Handicap Index change based on the formula and a given round may or may not be used in that calculation.
