Matsuyama is in a part of the green that he can easily three putt from. And Xander blew it

Yeah but also not sure if Hideki plays his tee shot so conservatively if Xander hits the green

These last 15 minutes have been rather fascinating. Other than Norman in 96, I’ve never seen anyone rinse it at 16. And I definitely have never seen anyone go through the green there.

All in all this was a good tournament. We just had the drama on the other three days instead

I bet Spieth for "winner without Matsuyama" this morning and that came pretty close. Darn

He hit it there after Xander went in the water, pretty sure he clubbed up after Xander's shot and just went for the back right away from the water.

edit, what ulf said

I feel like I saw a quote from someone who mentioned to his translator that he doesn't speak a lot of English, to which the translator responded, "He doesn't speak a lot of Japanese, either"

Dude probably has no idea what to do with the attention. Probably just wants to sign his card and go home.

Good call both of you. I was too annoyed to see what was obvious.

Really cool having a Japanese player win a major for the first time, but admittedly one of my favorite parts of seeing Masters winners is the emotion, interview, etc. Cry damn it!

Matsuyama winning it is nice

1. He’s been around for a while and is still young (29)
2. Japan’s first major championship
3. Comes at a time when anti-Asian sentiment is pretty high

16 was painful, especially because after 15 it seemed like things were gonna get interesting. He said he hit a good shot and the wind just took it, but man, do you really need to be taking that aggressive of a line there? The majority of aces there are landed towards the middle of the green and filter down.

Crazy that Zalatoris only lost by a single stroke.
