It was nice to see a semi-skinny John Daly, but was more surprised by their commentary stating that Tom Kite was the leading money winner in the history of the tour. I knew that Kite was a good golfer and obviously purses have risen steadily with time, but had no idea he was at that level at one point in time.
Kite was the first in Tour history to reach $6 million, $7 million, $8 million, and $9 million in career earnings.
Ended up winning just over $11MM on the PGA Tour. Has won over $16MM on the Champions Tour, while making 400 of 411 cuts.
There is a discussion going on right meow on pantherlair about tiger and his impact on the game. some jabronis were arguing that arnie and ben Hogan and dudes like that had a similar impact on the game as tiger. balderdash I say. $6 million is childs play in this day and age, and tiger is the sole reason for the explosion of purse money.

My sexy pick to win the PGA is Patrick Cantlay. Dark horse is Tony Finau, although with Top 10s in every major is he really a dark horse anymore?

Absolutely that's all Tiger. The increase in purses has significantly exceeded the rate of inflation. Guys that can hang around the tour for a couple of years and make half of the cuts earn themselves a couple cool million. Briny Baird finished his career with $13.3MM despite never winning on tour. Two wins this season has helped put Patton Kizzire at $3.3MM for the year. Numbers like that don't happen without Tiger.

Cantlay plays tough courses pretty well. Not sure if he quite has the chops yet to finish off a major. His only win is Vegas. As for Finau, I saw him hit a 70-yard drive yesterday. Tried a right-to-left off tee and it hit a tree right and dropped down short of the forward tees.

To me, this is a DJ, Rory, JT type of golf course. But don’t forget about Molinari. Dude has been pretty sharp in the practice rounds so far.

i run a pick-one type of golf pool and this is the last week. my choices are pretty much Rahm, Matsuyama, Reed, Molinari, Casey or some other wild card outside the top 20.. I need a win to win this thing. I don't think Molinari can stay THAT hot, can he?

Well, the last four PGAs, Reed has finished T58, T30, T13, T2. So there's your answer.

Of those 5, I'd pick Molinari. If I had them available, I'd pick Rory or DJ. I do have Thomas available and that's who I'm picking.

Our leader has Rory so that's an easy one for him

Justin Thomas is an insanely talented golfer, but it just seems like he struggles in majors (last year's PGA the obvious exemption, of course). He's not a fan of links golf, that's for sure.

Hate to say it, but I think Phil is done. He just hasn't had it the last few years, save for the 2016 Open...

Heat index in the mid 90s. When there’s no breeze or shade, I can feel my skin melting.

Saint Louis is in a bit of a depression. It gets crazy humid there...but not as bad as Columbia.

Rahm's drive just bounced off a spectator's head, three rows deep in the gallery, back out into the first cut of the rough.

The PGA is the worst major. It has no defining characteristics, and if it wasn't called a major and didn't have a major purse, I don't know if it'd be a top 15 tournament for me.

It's definitely a "major in name only" kinda situation. The Players Championship has become a more iconic tournament, largely because it has defining characteristics. TPC even had a higher purse this year. I think the move to May will help the tournament, but they need to find a way to make it more iconic. Different courses, harder set up, give every hole an island green. Gotta do something.

The PGA should be played on the fantasy courses from the Tiger Woods video games.
