Auto racing. I took to golf this year so I would think about racing less frequently.

The funny thing about golf is the unbridled optimism on the way to the golf course. You're convinced those youtube videos you found or swing trick you figured out will transform your game.

That normally lasts until the second hole for me.

Hahaha I've had that feeling, showed up and scored par on the first 2 or 3 holes, thought to myself wow I'm finally gonna have a day, then have a string of 7-8-6 before the front 9 ends lol

Birdsfoot was a really fun course. Tough to describe. It wasn't "nice" in the polished country club way. But everything was well kept and the layout was challenging. Would love to go back and play it again now that I know my way around.

Was disappointed to shoot a 50/61 for 111. Irons woke up but the wedge game tanked me. Someday I will get it all together again. Ended up in the same cluster of trees/roots going up 13 and down 16. My ineptitude knows no bounds.
Played with some really cool guys. One of them drove the green on 6 and nailed it. They were playing a completely different game than me.

Golf progress isn't linear man... But I know that's extremely frustrating.

Hopefully you didn't stumble upon a massive hornet nest when you were in the trees like I did when we went

No?

There was a rifle range nearby. Sounded like some folks sighting in hunting rifles.

unfortunately the only time i make it out to birdsfoot now is for an outing and they have a bagpipe player start below the hill on 18 and then start playing as they walk up to the crest. its pretty awesome

11 and 12 are absolutely brutal holes, so tanking the back 9 is not uncommon at Birdsfoot.

I would go out again this fall, they have good Steeler game day specials.

I had a miserable day on Friday at Totteridge, took some personal stressors on the course with me and then got an annoying text from my wife early on and I just unraveled after that. Then Sunday I played Grandview for the second time and played consistently well, just some putting woes on the back prevented me from breaking 80. I had a bit of a revelation though, so at Totteridge, my first 10 shots were solid, GIR par on 1, 2 put bogey on 2 where my approach shot from 145 came a foot short leaving, a tough up and down that I couldn't make, but was very close from a good birdie chance, then blasted my drive on three for a 60 yard approach shot. Chunked the approach, then shanked the chip for a double, and then never recovered, shanked at least 10 shots, and was mentally not there after butchering the 3rd hole. At grandview, had a clear head, chunked a short approach shot on 1 causing a bogey, then hit a crappy drive in the trees on two causing a double, then a crappy chip on 4 caused another double there, but just played it out, played the rest of the front nine 1 under, and was striking the ball well on the back. I think the expectations piece is always massive, if you start off well, they get high, so when you hit bad shots, you get angrier.

Yeah, expectations are so hard for me. I spend a lot of time away from the course thinking about golf, working on a myriad of non-direct play facets of my game to give me the best chance for a good outing. Then I go out and immediately **** my pants. It's almost hurtful.

I shot a 122 today, in competition. Second worst round of the year, marking a complete regression to the first round we played together at Totteridge this spring.

As for Birdsfoot, my playing partner decided to stop and eat two chili dogs at the turn. While he was doing that a rain storm rolled in. I was just sitting there getting cold, momentum draining out of me. Combine that with the nature of Birdsfoot back 9 I am not surprised I immediately started spraying shots OB. Not making excuses, but that 61 wasn't a shock.

I saw your Totteridge card when it posted and was surprised at your score on 3, so thanks for sharing what happened.

3 wedges for the price of basically 1 Cleveland wedge? worth a shot.

There are probably a lot of mega douchers on tour, but there are some that seem like really awesome dudes as well. Rahm is a good dude

Took the day off and headed to the course. Dude in front of me tees up on the first and hits an iron on a 375 straight, no hazards, wide open hole. What are you even doing here, bro?

If he hits his 4 iron 210 and trusts his 165 yard shot, why wouldn't he take an iron?

That's how I play. I don't hit anything farther than 180 (5h) when I'm actually trying to play well. I haven't worked my slice out yet so my longer clubs don't come out of the bag on serious rounds. The penalty for going OB is greater than the 40-60 yards I lose by playing an iron.

The weird thing is that you care about how some rando enjoys his golf day.

Yesterday at Totteridge is a perfect illustration of that for me. I played 17 holes using my conservative plan. Par'd 16, 17. Got cocky and decided to play my 2i driving iron on 18. Chucked it deep, deep into the woods right. Not worth it.
