So are yinz golf fans excited for the Masters? My favorite golf event by far...the herald of spring, Amen Corner, dat green jacket, etc. Doesn't get any better IMO. Who is your pick?

I'm going with Rory. He's due.
Depending on the courses (of the British and US) I rotate between favoriting the British, US and Masters. St. Andrews is my favorite course in the world so I think its British, Masters and then US in terms of interest.

I think I'll go with a young American. Spieth if I had to choose. The field is so open.

I like relatively difficult courses, and St. Andrew's is not one of those, at least IMO.

Next year I'm most looking forward to the US Open, as it's at Oakmont. I love watching that course eat these guys up. This year I am more looking forward to the Masters.

TIGER'S PLAYING THE MASTERS!!!!!!!!!

And I think this will only help Rory because now all the talk about the career Grand Slam gets shelved because TIGER'S BACK, Y'ALL!!!!

I'd say if anything he finishes the first round at +5 or so and then bows out halfway through the 2nd round.
is it a success if he makes the cut?
absolutely.

If he wasn't honorable enough to WD from the Masters after the bad drop a couple of years ago, he won't WD from this year's Toonamint. We kicked this thought around at work today and a few were in the camp of him shooting 79 on Thursday and then claiming some sort of back pain and pulling out. If that happened, he might as well hang it up.

I was able to hit the range today for the first time this year, I'm hoping to get on the course over the weekend. It seems like my game always peaks during the first couple months of the season, that's when my swing is the most free-flowing and natural. After that I start to develop some bad swing habits which causes me to have too many swing thoughts in my head when I'm trying to play and it just snowballs. I'm gonna try to hit the range 2 or 3 times a week so my swing is more ingrained and I don't have to think about it as much on the course.

Give me Dustin Johnson at the Masters. His game has looked strong since his return and he's got the distance to maneuver around Augusta like Bubba has. Tiger, man, if he shoots under 150 the first two days I'll be thrilled. If he's under 160 I'd probably take that too.

A couple friends and I have a friendly wager going. We each pick 2 people, lowest combined score between the two wins (both players have to make the cut), winner gets free lunch next week on the 2 losers.

Friend #1: Bubba and Rory
Friend #2: Day and Spieth
Me... well I just picked the two players that if they did well it'd piss off friend #1 the most because he hates both of them. Adam Scott and Rickie Fowler. I fully don't expect to win, but it'll be lulz if I do.

Thinking about trying my hand at golf. Any suggestions on a decent, yet affordable set of (lefty) clubs to pick up?

So I ordered my irons many moons ago from a site like this one: http://www.pinemeadowgolf.com/golf-clubs/irons/

I think I got them for $100 (only mine included fairway woods) back in 2007. I still use them today. I didn't want to spend a ton of money just to find out that I don't like golf. I think once I graduate, I'll get an actual set of nice clubs.

Also, check out used clubs on ebay. Something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ping-G2-Iron-se ... 25a3fe74a6

Really when you're just getting into golf, it's not about the clubs, it's about getting your swing right.

Makes sense, I'll have to excersice my free usage of the Island's facilities before I get too involved. Plus, I got friends and family that will probably give me a few pointers as well. (don't know if they're any good though. )

ugh... advice from people that think they know how to golf, but don't is the worst. I would never lend people too much advice because I'm still trying to get my own stuff together and figuring it out for myself.

this is true in the sense that if you spend 1200 on a set of irons, you arent going to be a scratch golfer automatically; however, there are certain clubs you definitely should not buy as a beginner.

you are going to want something with a wide sole which will help when you chunk one. also, you will want a larger face to increase the sweet spot on mishits. that also helps with the weight distribution when you are trying to come around on the ball and also with elevation. i would also look for a set that has hybrids for the long irons. this will make it much easier on you.
