That's how I play. I don't hit anything farther than 180 (5h) when I'm actually trying to play well. I haven't worked my slice out yet so my longer clubs don't come out of the bag on serious rounds. The penalty for going OB is greater than the 40-60 yards I lose by playing an iron.

The weird thing is that you care about how some rando enjoys his golf day.

Yesterday at Totteridge is a perfect illustration of that for me. I played 17 holes using my conservative plan. Par'd 16, 17. Got cocky and decided to play my 2i driving iron on 18. Chucked it deep, deep into the woods right. Not worth it.
I was largely joking. I figured the “bro” would give it away. They’re also playing music from a Bluetooth speaker. They deserve ridicule.

I played behind a group yesterday that had a cigar smoker in it. I was blown away that I could smell the smoke when pulling up to the tee box. Didn't bother me but I thought it was interesting.

The music folks are the worst. When I play alone I put on some music that can't be heard outside of the cart. Any louder than that and you're a jagoff. Oddly I've never seen a rule prohibiting it at any course I've ever played. I've also never encountered it at a country club.

I’m not a fan of music while playing. I can’t really articulate why but I prefer the sounds of nature

The music thing is a "know it when you see it kind of thing".

Most people are able to handle it, but if you can hear some random ass music blasting two fairways over, then it's annoying.

Phil Mickelson just hit one of the best shots I've seen. Out of the pine straw and way left off the tee, he hits a 3 wood that goes 100 yards straight across the fairway and then boomerangs hard left to end up just off the right side of the green. On a Par 5.

What a bizarre round… started by getting scheduled to golf with 3 randoms. They don’t show up so I follow the 4 iron from the tee and Bluetooth speaker twosome.

Catch them on the 3rd tee box and there a group playing croquet in front of them. They ask if I want to join them, and I figured it doesn’t make a difference to me, so I do.

The twosome is super frustrated with the group in front of us, but at the same time, they’re dicking around hitting multiple balls so we never truly catch up to them. They keep dodinting about the girl in the group, despite her being the best player in the group from my observations.

They get frustrated and leave after the 6th. I catch up to the 4some on the 9th tee box. Don’t see anyone in front of them and they don’t let me play through. Odd, but whatever. They then leave.

Took me 2.5 hours to play the front. Then I started zooming. Took me an hour to play 10-17 when I start catching another group on the 18th tee box.

The pop over to the 5th instead. I see a group come down and ask what they were doing… “there was a 4some that wouldn’t let us play through so we skipped some holes. We’ll be quick…” they then point to the guy that was finishing 5 and said “that guy is a weenie… good luck following him.”

I tee off and get up to my ball and try to hit my second shot. It didn’t go well, I was tired, I think I pulled something so I’m done. I start packing up my stuff. I heard the group say they skipped some holes, plural, so I figure no one is behind me. I pack up, I get a call so I answer it and then *plunk*. A ball hits about 15-20 yards behind me.

It was a bizarre combo of impatient, rude, and slow players on the course today.

Still, I was golfing and not at work, so still a good day.

Golf is dumb.

I haven't been able to hit my 19h for a few weeks. Just a completely useless club, chunk it every time. There was a window of time in the summer when it was flying great but I haven't been there in months. With me not having learned my 2i properly yet this was leaving a huge gap in my bag. Took it out to the grass range today alongside the 20h (a few generations older than the 19h, has not been in my bag since the 19h came along) to see if I could make use of either one for the rest of the year.
I was straight grooving both of them. Just casually bouncing them around and over the 200-yard board. Off a tee, off the deck, didn't matter. Just an endless stream of perfect shots from both clubs.

What am I supposed to do with that? When I say golf is an abusive relationship this is what I mean. My swing is all love and kisses when we are alone on the range, but try to be useful at a tournament and it embarrasses me every chance it gets.

I dont like cigars or music while golfing.

Cigars... too much work to manage where to put it, keeping it lit, etc. I have enough to think about keeping my golfing balls in play

Music... what MIMH said, but also I'm usually the DJ where ever we go so that again creates too much work for me.

Beers, trannys, John dalys, vodka sodas, a nip of bourbon on a cool day. **** talk. Hijinks. These are all good things.

I also play with one guy who for some reason I always purposely plug his ball. It's nbd, he gets to fluff it up nice and he's like a 22 handicap like me so whatever.

I think that’s golf in a nutshell. All year long something ain’t working right.
