full disclosure: my irons, 3 hybrid, driver, and sand wedge are hand me downs from my dad

my gap wedge was part of the pre owned callaway set I bought in 2005

my sand wedge (an awesome Hogan sure out) was bought used on line

the only club in my bag I bought new was my putter

but I stand by all of my statements re: new clubs
new clubs help if you know what you're doing.

That's the thing... I got no idea what I'm doing. I just hit the ball and hope it goes the right direction. Usually it does. My all time best round is a 78, but I'm typically a low 90's hack, especially now that I don't golf very often.

I had these gorgeous forged Cobra's before I had kids and played at least twice a week. Then I had kids and I play maybe 4 times a year, so I had to give up the blades and get a four year old set of Ping G10s. I just shattered the graphite shaft in the 7 iron so it's about time to start the scavenging over again.
I broke my 9 iron a year ago and haven’t replaced it yet.

I'd be lost without a 9 iron. Wouldn't be able to BOMB DRIVES and GO AT PINS like Phil

I just went to Play It Again Sports and picked up a set of Mizuno irons for $100. Not even really sure how old they are, but they're definitely an upgrade over the clubs I was using I inherited from my grandfather. Can't wait to use them.

I'm a little late to the discussion here...

Points -- correct that '17 PR gets him thru this season
Smylie -- he's playing this year on a major medical so he's going to have a number of events to put up enough FedEx points to keep his card. But at least he has a hot wife and that friendship with the Spring Break crew to fall back on.

Clubs -- I've had Ping irons and the TaylorMade RBZ driver for 7 years now (birdied my first 2 holes played with them...downhill ever since) and Maxfli fairway woods that I've had for over a dozen years because I hit them so well. Biggest thing I'll always tell people when it comes to getting different clubs is hit them first before buying them. Need to have that comfortable feel in the store rather than just getting something and adjusting to it on the course. And that goes for whether you know what you're doing or just playing hit & giggle.

Anyone here use Titleist irons?

My set of Cobras is 10 years old. Making some preliminary checks on possible replacements.

when i played every day, i played titleist 990b's. such a great club. personally, on all titlelist irons and woods, i find their forgiveness to be the worst in the business. they sing when you hit is square though. a work of art. my ability to get out on the course just evaporated 2 or 3 years after that and I moved on to cleveland which have been fine.

if you are looking to drop titleist money, go with ping. ping irons are the best out there right now, imo.

I got an absurd deal on New Egg or some other random website for a set of Nike Irons, a driver, and a hybrid. Sadly I can't even remember which specific set of irons the Nikes are, but I know they retailed for around $1,000 and I got them for like $250 brand new. Got a similarly great deal on a VRS driver.

I don't really think I'm being too modest here. I don't shape shots, I don't intentionally do any spin, I know generally how my ball flies when I hit it, so I work with that. Thus why I don't feel the need for namebrand clubs. Maybe back then when I was golfing weekly, I was a bit better, but really the strokes get made up near and on the green. Getting there is minor in comparison.

I have the Nike mach speed irons. They're 7 years old now but I love them and am afraid to get something new that I'll end up hitting worse. I think next year I'll hit demo day and see what feels good

Ordered the P3 irons from gigagolf (4 through PW). With shipping it was $200, and there's a 30 day guarantee that I can return them if I don't like them. We'll see how they work out.

I hate a lot of things and a lot of people, but it’s usually stuff like Ned or Penn State or Charles Howell III or everyone at the grocery store. I must say that Darren Andrew Points has never moved the needle for me.

0, but came within a foot last year.

84.

I’m usually a public course flunky, but I get to play Chartiers Country Club a couple times a year, so that.

Sank a 40 foot putt for my first eagle. I was so happy to hit the green on a par 5 in two that I didn’t care that I was 3+ putt distance from the pin. Crushed a putt that if it didn’t hit dead center of the cup it probably would have made it all the way back to the tee box; hit the back lip of the cup, popped up into the air a couple of inches, and fell straight down into the hole. It was arousing.

Olde Stonewall

Can I pick two (back to back)? Played Pottsburgh National back in July. Was playing so-so. Got to 10, Par 5. Hit a perfect drive about 310, right down the middle. Had a downhill shot, about 170 but playing shorter. Hit an 8 iron within 10 feet. I 2 putted it, but those are probably the two best shots in sequence I've ever had.
