man the course was great. The course is in wonderful shape and is picturesque. Not too difficult of a course but that almost is a good thing that you’re not too stressed

I shot a 91. Likely would’ve been in the 80s if I had my golf shoes as there were a couple of drives where my back foot slipped and I ended up shanking the **** out of a few drives.

Yesterday, I realized that at least half of my problems on the Golf course are related to my temper. For some reason, golf just triggers it worse than anything else I do.

Just opened up Zen Golf and started reading it.

Golf is supposed to be fun. You are outside enjoying a beautifully designed landscape for several hours. Used to take it too seriously and didn’t enjoy it. I certainly scored a lot better but didn’t appreciate the art

I was pretty good in high school. Played on the golf team, shot low 80s most of the time. Went to college and didn't have much time to play, started sucking, hated it. Took like 3 years off and then when I came back my brain had been cleansed. No longer had expectations, accepted that I suck, and it's been a blast ever since.

My buddy just had his first ace in a scramble. Free trip to Jamaica. Crazy

yeah this is the key. I’ve been steadily improving throughout my life (very slowly though, I’ve been golfing for about 20 years and my lowest round is like 84) so maybe it’d be different if I was getting worse at the sport but to me golf isn’t even about the score, unless you’re in a tournament.

It’s exercise in nature with friends. I’m really hoping I end up marrying a woman who likes to golf every so often so we can bond over that. The two forms of exercise I want to do until the day I die are golf and yoga

You need to be indoctrinated in the way of the playah. You may think I am kidding, but Matt fixed my mental game and I broke 100 three rounds later. And more importantly I am having fun.

This is his specific Break 100 philosophy:

Or if you want to see it in action first, try this:

I would just say, to get better at golf, you have to play a lot.

There are too many components of playing that can/will wreck a hole or a round.

Hit a decent approach to 5 ft off the green, then skull the chip into the bunker, now it’s a 7.

Push a drive into the tree line, try to get too cute with your out, that’s a 7.

Etc

Point being, at the level we are playing golf, you can’t learn anything from one single round, golf is too hard and one round is too easy to ruin. Haven’t watched the Dodint videos yet, but if the gist is to just move on to the next shot and erase all memory of the last is vital.

I think what helped me reflect on where I was, after a round, I would log the entire round in a spreadsheet. just list the shot #, club and result. Have to have a good memory, but I could then look at the round hole by hole and see what was going wrong. “Oh I chunked three wedge shots. I’ll go to a practice green and hit chips till I feel better about that shot.”

Part of it is being forgetful, yeah.
But the bigger theme is acknowledging we are not PGA/Championship/Par players and we need to literally recalibrate our expectations and match them to our level. I bring my own "pars" to the course. I add a stroke to each hole and then another to the hardest 9 holes. So that hard par 5 is a par 7, etc. Makes the course a par 99. Sounds silly but it absolutely bleeds off all the stress while on a particular hole as the margin of error is much wider.
Unfortunately you, TL, don't have a lot of strokes to give. But it's money for going 100+ to 89.

Thanks guys..... I genuinely appreciate this. Sometimes I fall into the trap of feeling like I'm the only one struggling on the course that day. I'm extremely hard on myself.

What a lame outcome. Cantlay doesn't beat the spread he was given, and Rahm didn't really challenge him. Meh.

I get your point but it’s also a little nice to see when DeChambeau, one of the best 5 players on earth (sorry ulf), top the **** out of the ball on a drive, have it hit a rock and kick 60 yards OB

even pros can have some really shitty shots, so that helps too. You don’t need to be perfect because literally no one is. One thing I love from meditation/yoga is the sense that we’re not striving for perfection, which is unattainable. We’re just trying to be kind and understanding to ourselves

I don't want the cold weather to come. Played a two man scramble today with father ulf so not sure what I would have shot on my own. But it would have been good

@shafnutz05 lower is a good dude, happy to see that. A friend of mine from Cleveland grew up playing against him and noted that it was a one sided affair - against Lower. He was a late bloomer and went D2 and then really worked at it and now he has his card. Really cool

What was your scramble score?

Doing a 2-man shamble and a 2-man scramble next weekend, I think under 80 and 75 respectively has to be the goal, but I also have no idea how good my partner for this thing is.
