It's all relative. Regardless of score, frustrating when the ball doesn't do anything you want it to

The inability to 'win' golf may be the most aggravating thing about it.

I was thinking about that a couple of weeks ago. I finally realized that any golfer that is more than semi serious about their craft all feel the same frustration. Regardless of handicap. Tour pros get pissed because they leave themselves a downhill ten footer for birdie, and they are often as mad as I am when I skull one 80 yards out of a bunker.
That kind of flipped a switch, if it will never go away and everyone deals with it, why let it get to me?

Keeps you coming back
But seriously frustrating and great at the same time. No matter how "good" you get, you'll always want to be better. I'm a competitive person, and my sports playing days are over. No more baseball, softball, hockey etc. I play kickball but that's fun. Anyway me vs myself vs the course will never actually get old or end, and it keeps me engaged and motivated to work at it

I would say getting better at golf has been my life goal for the past two years, and the discernible progress is what keeps me at it. Two of the guys I play with a lot were also getting into golf in the same time as me. When I first started going back out late 2020, there wasn't much difference. And now, the one with kids, he's still struggling to break 100, and the other guy, we used to go back and forth on who would win the round, now it's not even competitive, and if the score is close, it's cause he's taking mulligans.Keeps you coming back

I had my first back to back sub 80 rounds last weekend with 78 and 79 (both +7). I also just looked back at my scores last summer and I hit a groove at basically this exact same time in the summer. Fully expecting a 88-90 round next time out.I've played so bad this year. 77 Monday and 77 today and I'm feeling good again. Finally hitting some fairways and not scrambling every hole. Feels good

Five of my last six rounds I shot 109.

I mentioned it before but all those lessons and practice and analysis cleaned up my game, I no longer have the big blow-ups anymore. So it lowered my score ceiling considerably, it's just very surprising that the effort didn't lower my floor. It's a good thing but hard to celebrate that. I just want to shoot in the 90s from time to time, but, nooooooo.

I hear you man. My last three rounds were in the 100s after three in the 90s.
I tried a new drill at the range yesterday...while I am still working on my driving accuracy, this new driver path (trying to keep from coming down on the ball) got my average ball speed up to about 135 mph and my average carry up to about 215-220. Really all I did was practice a drill to keep an inside out swing path and it made a major difference on ball flight and explosiveness.

That was the breakthrough for me as well. One day it just clicked and I brought my swing path inside. Turned my slice into a more manageable pull.

Since I got that lag shot club, the thing that I work on most is tempo. I've changed my grip a little and hand pressure by loosening my left hand and strengthening the grip with my right. And the sensation / swing thought I have is keeping my hands inside on the downswing.
I think the biggest difference from training with that lag shot is my bad shots are just much better, and I don't ever worry about at least getting it into chipping distance when I am within 200-215 yards of the green.

Man, I really need to start using this damn thing. Do you have a good resource for the best exercises with that?Since I got that lag shot club, the thing that I work on most is tempo. There’s an app you can download with videos to watch. They also have a golf shot metronome (which is different from a normal one because it’s timed for start, downswing and contact

Also, I've been struggling with extreme pull with the driver. I smoked one 2 holes left yesterday (playable) and hit an unbelievable 205 yard 4 iron over trees to an elevated green to about 12-feet.

I’m surprised there wasn’t any mention of Finau’s back to back wins on here

If Finau hadn't won against those fields I was going to give up on him.

Great eagle from the fairway by Wu. He won the KFT Championship a couple of years ago, in a share of the lead.
Honestly, I love seeing guys like him and other recent KFT grads have a chance to win.

105 this morning. Started with a par and bogey at 6:15 and felt pretty good, and then the wheels fell off.
I'm driving the ball pretty well but my irons and wedges are a disaster. I don't know what it is...i can be middle of the fairway 120 yards out and my shot skitters straight right every time. I'm in my own head at this point, zero confidence from fairway to green.
