Listening to an interview with Paul Azinger which is fascinating and just really informative on a pretty amazing guy.

Azinger was really close with Payne. Hard to believe it's been almost 20 years since the plane crash.

I never realized, btw, that all of the occupants of the plane suffered from hypoxia, and the plane did not actually suffer any damage. It literally flew on autopilot, with all of the passengers passed out, until it crashed in South Dakota.

so, were they dead before it crashed, or does that just knock you out/comatose until you can receive oxygen again?

They were either incapacitated or dead.

It's pretty wild, there were fighter jets that were scrambled to assist the aircraft, and they could see from their cockpit that all of the plane's windows were completely frosted over, so it was obvious that the aircraft underwent a loss of pressurization and it was extremely cold in there. I remember the story broke an hour or two before the plane finally ran out of fuel over SD.

LPGA player Brittany Lincicome receives exemption into PGA Tour’s Barbasol Championship, the opposite event held the same week as the British Open.

Former Braves pitcher John Smoltz qualifies for US Senior Open.

Wow! I remember that Smoltz was a scratch golfer, that's awesome.

Won in a 3-for-1 playoff on 2nd hole with a double bogey. Sometimes a little luck is in play too.

Can lincicome still drop bombs? When she was younger i think she was regarded as one of the longest hitter on tour

Smoltz, at least by the baseball definition of the word, is a badass.

Lincicome is 6th on the LPGA Tour this year with a driving distance just a smidge under 272.

That would put her just below Jim Furyk for 2nd to last on the PGA, for reference's sake.

Her GIR% would be first on the tour, however. Will be interesting to see how she ends up doing.

The answer is probably not good at all. She has 3 wins on the lpga tour since 2011. GIR is a little different when you're 190 out on your 2nd shot vs 140

had my best round ever on Saturday. playing an executive course par 61, I shot a 74. 37 out, 37 in including 2 birdies and 6 pars. not bad for having been playing just over a year. :)

US Open sectional qualfiying across the country today. One of those who will be teeing it up at Shinnecock next week -- NHL referee Garrett Rank, who was co-medalist at the Roswell, GA qualifier.

played pittsburgh field club for the first time. shot 39 on the front and turd sandwich 46 on the back with 5 three putts

i have not played oakmont, nor have i played nevillewood, but for my money, field club is the best course in town. really well laid out. nice practice facilities, getting a whole shot game center, challenging but fair. beautiful. has an elevator to ride up between 17 and 18. checks all the boxes. it does end with a par 3 which i dislike

I don't quite "get" courses that end with a par 3 though I will say, I'm really starting to like par 3's. my last few rounds I've been racking up the pars on the scorecard on them.
