I saw one interview where the dude asked about 5 times what he has to say about people thinking it was disrespectful. He was able to hold his composure on it. If it were me, about time 3 I'd say "You already asked that."I don't blame Phil.

Had Mike Davis, the USGA President, on Fox giving a big mea culpa, said they are going to slow it down. Basically going to ruin it.

Yeah that was brutal. Good for Phil for not giving in to himI saw one interview where the dude asked about 5 times what he has to say about people thinking it was disrespectful. He was able to hold his composure on it. If it were me, about time 3 I'd say "You already asked that."I don't blame Phil.

What Phil did was great. It’s nice to see these guys act as people instead of robots. After the rolling putt back was missed I wish he would have rifled a putt toward his caddy and said “I don’t even know. Just gimme an 8 or something.”I saw one interview where the dude asked about 5 times what he has to say about people thinking it was disrespectful. He was able to hold his composure on it. Also to people saying Phil was disrespectful and all that jazz, get over yourselves. He took a 10 on that hole and fired an 81, it doesn't matter. It was funny

If no one can shoot par, is it really par?

Berger and Finau the final pairing tomorrow. Doubt we're going to see those guys much.

Now that I have cleaned all the dust out of places dust shouldn’t be, here’s my takes on the day:
Course - USGA lost it. Yes, Finau and Berger played great but they played a totally different setup than the afternoon players did. The USGA had zero foresight or fallback for when the winds came up and dried out the greens. They set pins in ridiculous locations. The closest anyone came on an approach at 14 was 40 feet. It’s a 520+ yard par 4 and the green is REPELLING shots. Koepka hits a shot into 15 that is 8-10 feet on normal greens but because of the setup, that shot rolls off the green into a bunker and it’s a 2-shot swing potentially. The architecture of these greens is such that they should run a 9 or 10 on the stimp instead of whatever lightning speed the USGA is attempting to reach. No one wants to watch guys get penalized for good shots and if we’re out to grow the game, it’s not gonna be watching good shots roll off the green.
Phil - Should have been DQ’d. The rule says the committee can DQ if they judge the intent of the action warrants it. Phil’s jog to the ball to hit it and then his explanation afterwards should have been all that was needed to judge intent. If that’s Mickey DeMorat doing that, he’d be gone. As Duval said on our show tonite, if he wanted to take advantage of the rules, he should have let the ball roll, declare it unplayable, and re-putt taking just a 1-shot penalty.
Overall - Anyone’s game now. Who knows what we’ll get with the setup and the wind. I don’t think Berger or Finau win. Reed has a chance at grand slam. Furyk has a shot. Aphibarnrat could make it a Thai sweep of the Opens (Jutanugarn won the women’s). I think it’ll be Rose or DJ, probably in a playoff. Thankfully, it’s 2 holes and not 18 cuz no one wants to be here another day longer.

As always, really appreciate your insight OP. What a damned mess this weekend has been... That said, take a look at that leaderboard.... Sunday could be fantastic.
Reed has a lot of names to jump over but I like him the most out of anyone in that group three or more shots back. The obvious prediction is Rose vs. Johnson, but who knows. Not sure if Stenson can put a low enough number down to jump everyone.

I would absolutely love to see Furyk drop a 64 or something if they ease the course back. I'm worried they are going to overcorrect the pins.

I listened to the No Laying Up Podcast interview of Joe Buck. He's exactly the kind of joyless person you'd think.

Looking at the rounds so far, it's readily apparent the USGA throttled wayyyy back on degree of difficulty. Would not be surprised if the winning score was even par or better.

Reed opens up the day with three straight birdies. Should be a classic this afternoon.
