I listened to the No Laying Up Podcast interview of Joe Buck. He's exactly the kind of joyless person you'd think.
Yeah, I’ve heard interviews with him before and he’s just boring, unlike guys like Michaels or Costas. Yet he gets to call everything important.

Fleetwood has only missed one fairway and two greens through 14 holes. I think he's going to come up just short of the leaders.

As predicted, Finau and Berger fading faster than the twilight after sunset

Fleetwood is 7 under? Good job USGA. **** up round 3 and then proceed to neuter the final round of the US Open.

Fleetwood was great, Fowler also shot low, and Reed is off to a great start, but it’s not like everyone is dominating the course. The large majority are still over par. They had to make it more playable, but I don’t think they’ve made it easy.

And Fleetwood had putts inside 10 feet on 16 and 18 that he missed. Crowd gave him a real nice ovation on 18.

Koepka has not been great the last five holes, but he just keeps making huge par saves. A repeat would be mighty impressive

feel bad for fleetwood that he couldnt come in at 62 and tie the lead, probably beating himself up a little bit

It really is amazing that there is this mystique with 62...obviously all of the guys that have hit 63 just needed to make one more shot and none of them could do it.

Branden Grace didn’t seem to have a problem doing it at Birkdale last year. 63 is sooooo yesterday.

I picked up Fleetwood on 15 yesterday and when he made the putt there, I thought he would put at least 62 on the board with the par 5 coming up next. The putt on 18 also looked like a formality, he just underread the break.

Interesting week to say the least. I walked the green on 18 while trophy pics were being taken and it’s not a green that would be friendly to my scattershot putting. Given where Koepka was a couple months ago with that wrist injury, it’s pretty remarkable that he passed this test with the higher rough in play. He now has more majors than regular Tour wins, a rarity in the game.

Or you could look at it as if Fleetwood shoots a 75 instead of 78 in round 3

I am hardly one to groan about the noble traditions of golf, but I thought the fans were really poorly behaved at Shinnecock this weekend. A lot more obnoxious yelling and names than usual...could just be because FOX brought more mics than the NSA has in their entire possession, but it was much more noticeable than most tournaments.

Using crowd mikes for golf is a terrible idea. It's an even worse idea when the crowd is primarily frat boy stoolies.

Doesn't matter whether it's Liberty National or Bethpage or Shinnecock, the people of New York are IN LOVE with the sound of their own voice. I've never heard as much senseless yelling out to players at a golf tournament than I have at any of the golf tournaments I've covered around NYC/LI. Just shut up already.

golf would be much better if everyone could scream and yell like a normal sporting event and there were chants and what not (imo)

People yell idiotic and inane things. That's different from cheering.

Agreed. That would utterly ruin golf for me. I enjoy it because it's *not* like every other sport. It's OK in small doses...that's what makes the WM open in Arizona fun to watch. I also think precision-wise, golfers have a far, far smaller margin of error than just about any other sport out there in terms of being competitive.

And also agreed, I am hardly a staunch traditionalist like the Rick Reillys of the world.
