They were both in their 60s, which is true. That being said, Bernhard Langer averaged 270 off the tee last year and is in his 60s. He would probably use a 9 or wedge at the same distance in this day and age.

Why is golf coverage so dumb sometimes. It's 10:30pm and live golf is still being played and they cut the broadcast to get to Golf Central post game coverage. What other sport just stops showing a game if it's not over? It's not like there's a bigger tournament going on to switch to

You know how I complain about everything?

Golf coverage is so frustrating I don't even bother mentioning it. There's just too much to cover, even for me.

every Thursday morning during a major I feel like I have to scramble to find a stream of the coverage. It’s ludicrous

That was a horrible round. And then all he needed to do was birdie the Par 5 and he blew that too.

He has no other go-to. He's always looking for someone to fail rather than how they can succeed. It's annoying to hear every single telecast.

He doubled down later droning on about how you "can't hide" from the leaderboards on this course. Come on man.

I'm actually really excited for the final round. IMO, that was one of the most entertaining moving days I've ever watched in a tour event. 12 different guys held the lead yesterday. The highest ranking in the final three groups is 62 or something.

I always enjoy the life changing wins.

Golfer Patrick Reed has threatened to sue CNN after Jake Tapper and sportscaster Bob Costas discussed the highly controversial LIV Golf Tour on The Lead With Jake Tapper.

LIV Golf has been in the spotlight since it started in 2022. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund supports the startup league financially.

On Thursday, Costas joined Tapper’s CNN show and the two discussed LIV Golf. Neither Tapper nor Costas mentioned Reed by name, but the golfer’s lawyers at Klayman’s Law Group allege the two made defamatory comments about the 2018 Masters champion.

In a letter obtained by Golf Monthly on Tuesday, Reed’s lawyers wrote:

Late last week, CNN and Jake Tapper, along with CNN’s sports reporter Bob Costas aired a highly defamatory piece titled “The Court Fight Between PGA Tour and LIV Golf Escalates as the Saudi-backed LIV Tries to Avoid Handing Over Information.”

This widely viewed broadcast in Florida, the nation and internationally, was not only defamatory but also designed to incite ridicule, hatred and violence against LIV Golf players, such as my client Patrick Reed, a world champion professional golfer, by publishing that he takes “blood money” from the Saudi Public Investment Fund, in the wake of the 9/11 tragedy twenty-two (22) years ago.

The article also, at a minimum, falsely implies that he using a lawsuit, of which he is not even a party, to dig up data, track down, intimidate and harass 9/11 victim families. The broadcast republished with reckless disregard for the truth, a prior Bloomberg article, and references the Bloomberg article in the broadcast.

Mr. Reed is not a taker of “blood money,” as he simply plays on a golf tour financed by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, which also owns large shares in a myriad of American companies such as Disney, Boeing, J.P Morgan Chase, Amazon, Blackrock Inc., Microsoft and many others. Indeed, many sponsors of the PGA Tour benefit from this investment fund, and PGA Tour players have recently been granted releases by the PGA Tour to play in the Saudi International Golf Tournament in Jeddah, on February 2-5 2023, also financed by the Saudi Public Investment Fund. Aramco, the oil company owned by the government of Saudi Arabia, also sponsors and finances a number of LPGA events. Are you accusing female professional golfers of also taking blood money?

Tapper, Costas and CNN are therefore on notice that if an on air public apology is not immediately made to Mr. Reed and the broadcast removed and retracted from CNN’s websites, streaming services and other forms of publication, in order to mitigate the damage which they have caused, as well as discipline meted out to Tapper and Costas, we reserve the right after five (5) days to sue Tapper, Costas and CNN pursuant to Florida Statute 77.01 for damages well in excess of $450,000,000 dollars which includes compensatory, actual, special, and punitive damages.

Would be hilarious if this lawsuit somehow got Jake Tapper fired.

I'm enjoying this course that the pros are at this week. Are there any readily accessible Pete Dye courses out yinz way?

@dodint, Iron Valley was designed by Pete Dye. The front nine of that course has several hallmarks. A semi-island green, a long Par 5 with water all down the left, etc.

one of my club's courses is a Pete Dye. They think it's god's gift to earth though and overcharge - plus the Dye factor gets too much traffic and it's always packed with their resort guests. Sweet course to play once a year

Fowler's Mill in Geauga Ohio is a fun underrated Dye track

LIV will be on the CW this year

kind of a weird choice for the CW since I don’t think I’ve ever seen them broadcast sports before but it’s pretty smart. Will get a ton of eyes

The CW, which is under new ownership and probably won't be The CW for much longer, is in a weird spot. The channel has never been profitable and never had to be because its corporate overlords didn't care. Corporate overlords are minority stakeholders now and the new owners need to figure out a way to make the channel profitable. Original programming is being axed and seems likely to be completely phased out within two years. Now with all of that being said,
Sources told ESPN that it is a revenue-sharing arrangement and that LIV Golf won't receive rights fees from the CW network and would continue to pay production costs, as it did during its inaugural season in 2022.
There's basically no financial risk for the channel in this endeavor.
