geez I didn't realize how expensive the Bushnell rangefinders are. I have a Garmin touchscreen GPS that is great to get distances to the center of the green and bunkers/water/corners etc but was leaning towards getting a rangefinder after using a buddy's. anyone have a more reasonably priced one that they'd recommend?

Day 1 thoughts:

Think how different it would be had Finau’s ball bounced off the wood and into the water on 16 rather than to 4 feet. Totally changed that match. First time ever that Europe swept foursomes session. Bryson and Phil is a terrible foursomes idea and since they’re not playing the morning, they should sit the entire day. Furyk said he wouldn’t play anyone all 5 sessions. Right now, DJ-Fowler and Spieth-JT are on pace for all 5. If they play well in the morning, you think they’re sitting the afternoon? Wouldn’t be a good idea. The rough is no joke here and that showed today. At least a 1/2-shot penalty in fourball and if you hit it deep in foursomes, you probably lost the hole.

Tomorrow AM Fourball:
Rory-Sergio vs Koepka-Finau
Casey-Hatton vs DJ-Fowler
Fleetwood-Molinari vs Tiger-Reed
Poulter-Rahm vs Spieth-JT

I’ll be on the first tee tomorrow morning (later shift today) so I’ll try to get a pic of the scene on here. I’ve been to 2 Ryder Cups in the US and this is my first in Europe. I give the fans here credit - they are awfully creative with their songs and cheers.

The curbstomping continues in the morning. Just when Koepka and Finau were about to stage another comeback, Sergio buries a birdie on 17 to end it (had a front row seat for that one). DJ and Fowler ran out of gas and Tiger and Reed got it back to square and promptly lost the next 3. JT and Spieth are the only hope right now.

Welp...10-6 going into singles. That means the US has to win 8 of the 12 matches or get halves from a few others if there are halves in the first 8 matches. Not exactly a recipe for success but it has happened before. Most of this US team just hasn't shown up this week and are getting badly outplayed. Fleetwood and Molinari might as well have a website made up and name it the Tiger Dominators. Even though the US is traditionally great at singles, they have too many who have played like slugs like week to expect to run through the lineup enough to get to the right number.

I think the US has 8 matchups with the better golfer. We'll see what happens

Tiger 0-4. Phil 0-2. Still winless in a Ryder Cup with Tiger in it since 1999. Euros were just better this week.

I use this one:

half the price and it seems to work just as well as my buddy's Bushnell.

Geez...what an insufferable prick. His wife might actually be worse than he is...she is a big time enabler of his nonsense.

The good thing about the Ryder Cup being over is that I can go back to hating Reed for 103 more weeks

That Reed would say those things is no big surprise at all. And it continues to cement his reputation among the Tour players of 'not playing well with others'. There's a reason why there was hardly anyone hanging around when he won the Masters. As for his wife, well, I hope they have plenty of off-Tour friends because she didn't help anything with her weekend tweets.

An example of the way she runs his ship -- last year at Hartford, I needed to talk to some players about some policy the Tour had just put through. I saw him walking from the range to the short game area (best time to grab them for a couple of quick questions when they're walking) so I asked if I could stop him quick. He looks at me, looks at his wife, and asks her if he has time for it. She said yes and he did the interview. I was dumbfounded that it happened that way. But the more you learn about their dynamic and especially with the estranged family angle of it, it really shines a poor light on her.

Oh, and one other thing -- I was hanging out on 1 green/2 tee yesterday as every match was coming through. When Reed walked to the green and then walked from the green to the tee, the entire crowd started shushing him. It was pretty damn hilarious as well as awkward that they taunted him like that. He ended up hitting it to about 10 feet on 2 and they kept after him and I was expecting him to make some sort of gesture but he kept a stone face.
