I'm going to start doing the travel golf bucket list stuff when I establish myself as an 18.
The Old Course only requires a 36 but I want to be better for myself so I can really enjoy it.
Rick Shiels went there a couple of times this year and his talking about it along with the reading I've been doing has me excited about the idea of going. St. Andrews as a town looks like a fantastic place to get lost in. And I owe my wife a European vacation that was supposed to happen in 2020 but didn't, so penciling in half a week in Scotland is relatively easy.

I'm softly penciling this in for 2023.

Sawgrass is pretty cool, played while I was down for the Daytona 500 one year. My best man was on the grounds crew there.
For the three years or whatever he was there, he maintains he never lost a ball on the 17th.

St Andrews - stay away from the bunkers and the gorse. Easier said than done. That gorse will reach out and grab your ball (or I just hit a really poor shot).

Sawgrass - total ****. Can’t play your normal game on that course because as soon as you hit an off shot, Dye will punish you. I still laugh at pros who struggle at 17 cuz I made birdie there in one of my 3 times playing it (we won’t mention the other 2 attempts).

17 is easy* if you don't think about the water. Just a 110 yard wedge shot from the regular tees.

Played it on the simulator a couple times

I played World Tour in Myrtle last year and all four of us missed the green on the Sawgrass 17 hole

Find it hard to believe that he will be able to play at a competitive level again. Glad that he’s trying, but he was showing age before the accident.

dodint, I respect the amount of effort you put into your golf game.
Thanks, it's a lot of fun or I wouldn't be doing it.

I want to say that I don't believe that any one thing that I do will translate directly to better scores. It's all about positioning myself to have the best base to work from, in terms of both equipment and knowledge. I think that encourages confidence and gives me fewer things to worry about when I'm standing over a shot. I've been working on a ton of different aspects of my game all year just trying stuff out. I'm really looking forward to next season where I'm not fussing with gear as much or trying to find my swing. I just get to drill down and practice with what I have. I think I will have a lot fewer breakthroughs but will enjoy steadily better scoring through the year as I refine what I have.

The great thing I've found about golf is that it's so multi-faceted and also very layered. I've really thrown myself into it with a voracious curiosity. Since this spring I've read books on swing technique, mental strategy, broad golf history from pre-1552 to 1900, specific biographies of 20th-century golfers (Jones, Snead/Hagen/Hogan, Palmer), and I have some course architecture books on my list. I've researched drivers, hybrids, irons, wedges, and putters and how they work. I follow about six different Golf youtube channels each that specialize in a different aspect of the game. There are just so many different ways to have an interest in the game and I'm having a good time working my way around the disciplines.

The best part is that there doesn't have to be an end. Nobody has ever 'won' golf, it just is.

the worst part of golf is how frustrating it can be when you play poorly. the best part of golf is the hope you get when you identify something that you know you can work on and fix and improve in your game

Except I live in Western PA which has gray skies 8 months out of the year. It's nice when it's nice, but that's not what brings me back to golf.

I've got the simulator parts all ordered - just need to clean out the garage and install the door and heater and we're gonna be in business soon. I'll post a pic in a couple weeks when I get it done. pretty pumped

How much is the venture going to run you? This would obviously be the equivalent of doing like a cool game room, and I would take this over a billiard table and mini bar all day.

dodint yeah the mevo+

It'll be roughly 6k ish. I was fortunate that literally everything went my way when I changed jobs (between my old bonus and signing bonus) and just thought I'd get way more use out of this than a hot tub or tricked out basement or something. Plus, now my garage is going to be a cool spot that I can finish and add a bar or something like that later.

Also, it'd be a little cheaper if you already had a gaming computer, that was almost 20% of the cost, needing a cpu to run the golf club software

Yeah, mevo flight tracker was 1,800, enclosure with screen was roughly 1,400, hitting mat 500, projector 500, software for the courses is 900, and computer was about a grand.

Reviewing golf clubs is a great hustle. "Man this thing is so forgiving! what gr8 technology! subscribe to my channel so I can get free clubs and money from youtube to say nice things about new clubs!"

Do it the Rick Shiels way. Praise them for 11 minutes and then say you won't game them right as the video ends.

That's awesome @willeyeam!

Out of curiosity, what is your garage situation? We have a two car garage that connects to our kitchen; I am pretty fanatical about always wanting to be able to park our cars out there. I would imagine putting a simulator in would eliminate at least one side of the garage?
