There's very few surer bets in golf than DJ coming flying out of the gate on Thursday at majors. Rory and Jordan are on the course now, hopefully they'll get to 3 or 4 under this afternoon.

Gary McCord rivals Johnny Miller for most intolerable golf commentator. Best part about Augusta.

I can't stand any of CBS's production of majors...or golf overall for that matter. It's pretty painful to watch sometimes.

As for the golf itself today, the morning wave certainly had the advantage when the winds came up in the afternoon. Be interesting to see if tomorrow's weather treats the players the same way. If it doesn't and the wind doesn't blow in the afternoon, DJ and Day might put some separation going into the weekend.

Anyone hear Tiger's comments? Said he hit it great and didn't make anything. I don't know, TW, some of the iron shots I saw you hit were pretty putrid. If he's close, like he's said numerous times, then he has a pretty twisted definition of close.

As per Tiger, I feel like he's been saying that for the last four years. He's pretty deluded

Big old pileup on the leaderboard at Whistling Straits. The afternoon isn't playing as difficult as yesterday's did. This weekend is going to be crazy.

Hiroshi Iwata ties a major record with a 63, one day after shooting a 77. Golf is weird.

DJ is the only golfer in the top 40 on the leaderboard currently that is over par for his second round. I really, really thought his first round would carry through the weekend /s

Of all the courses in the regular Major rotation, Whistling Straits is becoming my favorite.

There's literally 6 minutes of golf in between every commercial break. It's like they took all the breaks they're not allowed to use at the Masters and shoved them into the PGA Championship.

CBS is terrible when it comes to broadcasting golf. They went the first 20 minutes of the broadcast today with Rory out there and Phil finishing up and they gave us 4 golf shots in that time. They have to showcase their talent and their little stories instead of just showing us the golf. If they wanted to weave in stories, do it in the hour beforehand when the golf is on TNT. The other giant pet peeve is when they show shots out of order. They put everything on tape anyway so show it in order. Instead, you get a sequence where they show you Spieth's 2nd into a hole allegedly live and you see a ball sitting close to the hole. The next shot you see is how that ball got there. Well duh, we know how it got there because it's sitting there. It's not magically gonna go in the hole or into a bunker when they revisit a shot that happened 'just a moment ago'. I've developed a drinking game revolving around how bad their coverage can be. (rant over...for now)

As for the actual golf, wow. Day and Spieth in the final group. Grace and Kaymer combining to go -15 in the same group today. My Day pick still looking good but if he's gonna be the best, he's gotta beat the best tomorrow. It's gonna be just like the British Open as far as excitement tomorrow.

Spieth has 2:1 odds right now. I just put a massive 8 dollar bet on him

Day might be trouble but Spieth has shown this year that he can close out a tournament while Day limps to the finish

Damn, looks like Day has this wrapped up

Ppieth still had an incredible year. It's ridiculous to think that he's 22.

My one-and-done pick is Day. It's his turn to win a major. He's been in contention way too much the last 4 years to not finally get one.

:D :D :D

And Spieth moves to #1 in the world. :o

That was fun stuff today. Good for Jason. Golf is in a good place right now with so much young talent. Shame the next major isn't for 8 months

Agreed. To add to that, how relatively consistently they all are playing. The future is definitely looking bright over the next 15-20 years, I'm looking forward to the battles between these guys.

We've officially moved past the Tiger era this year. I mean you had people like Scott, Rose, Mcilroy and others that were doing well between 2009 and now as a transition, but this new era is awesome. Mcilroy, Speith, Day, Johnson, it's going to be fun watching these guys in their prime.

Question to people who know about driver technology:

If my furthest drive with my 9ish year old Nike Sasquatch is around 290, would it be farther with a newer driver? Average distance is between 240 and 260.

I would imagine it would be farther but you'd have to gauge distance added vs price. 250 is fine for an average drive in most courses, I'd be content with it

Maybe 10 yards at most.
