He started announcing when I first started getting into the game. I remember thinking that he wasn't really serious about it and he probably bit bitter that his career was over....he was only 50 when he started calling the games, so he still had plenty of years of Champions Tour rounds if he wanted to. But he stuck with announcing instead.

I also heard him talk about retirement a few months ago and it was really touching. Talked about how his life has been rental cars and airports for 60 years. He seemed very frank about the grind and the life style.

I never loved him as an announcer either but that was still touching to hear.

You know when you have those duh moments practicing?

I was really upset by my iron play so got out in the yard with the Lagshot and youtube. This sounds really stupid, but I realized that all of my iron shots were outside in. Like it never occurred to me to do the same motion I've been trying with my driver.

Biggest challenge is getting used to the new motion. It's also surprisingly easy to forget to do.

I had a coach spend a year with me telling me my driver swing was over-the-top. It didn't click for me until the next spring when I was watching a swing video I took of myself. Then it clicked like a key falling into a tumbler.

4 birdie putts at league tonight. Left 3 of them short, including one that was no more than 7 feet out.

Stunned to see Rickie qualifying at number 125 for the FedEx Cup. Might be time to reduce the field.

This is when he comes alive!!

I have my first lesson today at 1:30. Slightly nervous, more so hoping to not have a jerk for an instructor.

Great first lesson today--I got an extra twenty minutes in as he was waiting for the high school team to get there.

Biggest thing he worked with me on was a consistent setup and swing plane. I realized that I have virtually no wrist release at impact and basically muscle it out with my arms. I was also woefully under-turning my hips.

Once I started to practice the same preshot routine every time and focus on that, stepping up to the ball and hitting it seemed so much easier. Still a lot of work to do but that was a pretty big breakthrough for me. Came home and hit some practice balls in the yard and the difference is incredible.

Yeah, they are always going to do the setup first, because that’s usually always off for us weekend golfers.

Yup.

It's allowed for my pulls to be very consistent. ;)

It will definitely take some getting used to. My brain tells me there is no way I will have control over my shot of I don't grip the sht out of the club.

So these guys aren't winning a dollar until their on course earnings break their 100+ million amounts. Smooth

This is actually a good strategy by the Tour's lawyers. Solid exemplary list.

"Claim 4: Entry to golf’s majors is not earned only through the FedEx Cup"

*chef's kiss*

The only card the PGAT is holding is that it's painfully hard to qualify for the Majors without tour participation. It's the number one thing a LIV player had to give up to cash-in.

It was never about the DJs and Phils. It was about the guy that decided to take LIV in his early-20s and didn't already have Major exemptions. Congrats on having to actually qualify for Opens like the rest of the peons.

They got these lump sums to join the tour, which ended up being advances against future earnings. ie Phil got $150 mil and wouldn't get any future winnings until he wins more than $150 mil.

They've claimed in press conferences that that was untrue and they'd receive their prize money but that doesn't seem to be the case

I read a while back that these contracts don't pay off until they've played enough LIV golf to hit their threshold. They don't get the millions in prize money until they've earned the amount they signed for in the contract. It keeps players from signing up for one or two events and then retiring. They'll have to play for years to actually earn it.
Well that'd really be interesting. I thought it was an advance. I'm not sure I buy that, Phil has to be smart enough to know he'd never win that much

I tried to delete my post but you replied too fast.

The answer is a combination of 'it depends' and 'I don't know.'

I read it as

If MIMH signs for $5 million, he gets that upfront because that's his pay rate. But, he cannot claim any winnings until his winnings exceed that $5 million (so if he wins $1 million and $2 million in consecutive matches/whatever LIV calls it, he still needs to win an additional $2 mil before he can actually take home winnings).

Edit: I type even slower than dodint can delete

I do know they don't get the fat contract payout until they've played a certain number of events but I don't know how that's structured.

Either way it's fake golf where the points don't matter and nobody wins.
