I don't know how much it's Colbert or Tomlin overriding, or both. Obviously they made great picks along the way, but them being this poor offensively, shouldn't be a surprise they ignored OL.

Which is strange because Ben needed protection more than ever, and the seemingly had zero back-up plans when the old core started retiring.

I'm more annoyed about the DJ drop than anything today mostly. Dude showed up the play-callers and to a degree Trubisky and then drops a catch that hit him in the hands, albeit it was a tough one - but if he wants what, $20mm a year? He needs to catch that.

He's only credited with 1 drop this year, which just illustrates why that's not an official NFL stat. ;)

He's 21/33 on receptions/targets.

Just turned on the fan, second caller i heard just suggested that they bring Ben back (unclear if it was to play QB or to be the offensive coordinator)

Queue the Alonzo gif

On the run to his right and you want him to throw back across his body left? Mitch obviously isn't the answer, but most of the critiques I've seen about missing wide open receivers are kind of lame. You can't take a snapshot and blame the QB for not seeing the guy at that exact moment without looking at the whole play and the QB's progression.
Btw this play was the Pickens catch, which I don't think anyone pointed out yet

I dont blame mitch too much but you have to go to Pickett now. You're not going to win with Mitch in there. See what you have in Pickett because you're going to have a high draft pick next year and a lot of QBs are there

You have the Jets coming up... give Mitch the start and if nothing gets rolling by halftime, bring Kenny in.

This is where I am at. I don't think Mitch had a terrible game. He sailed it at the end because he was trying to open it up when he hasn't done that all year.

But this offense isn't a winning offense, he can be a safe quarterback, and still not be good enough to be a starter.

If you're expecting 14 points of offense, it honestly doesn't matter about his PFF grade, it's an instance where it's not passing the eye test.

I actually don't want Tomlin to bench Mitch because I want them all to hear the Kenny Kenny chants lol.

I'd argue as it stands right now the Steelers are worse than the Jets even with Flacco at QB. If Wilson is back then they are significantly better at QB by default.

Mitch is Mitch. This is why I didn't get any measure of the optimism about the 'upside' of his signing over the summer.

An average NFL career is only 3 and a bit seasons.
Well yea, that's why I only went back so far. Guess how many Offensive Lineman were draft in that time that stuck around with the Steelers. Okrafor, Moore, Greene, Dotson.

Since 2016 - the Steelers have drafted 6 OL - out of 53 total picks. 3 are starters, 1 back-ups (bust potential), 2 no longer play football.

If the foundation of the team starts in the trenches, the Steelers have failed miserably on the most critical side of the ball, imo.
It's a bit disingenuous to cover that long of a period. In 2016, their line was Villanueva, Foster, Pouncey, DeCastro, Gilbert with Lev Bell lighting up the world. All 30 or under. That's not to say they shouldn't have addressed it in 2018/2019, but you have to give them a break there.

Makes sense... He'd like a guy that wears gloves...especially gloves that would be too small for his hands.

Maybe, but given how quickly injuries happen, and as those guys got closer to 30, they seemingly did nothing to plan for a future after them.

DeCastro was terrible his last year, and I still think his sudden retirement absolutely flabbergasted the team, which is amazing.
