here’s the backstory which might make some of you feel bad if you make fun of me lol
I’ve always kind of wanted to get a tattoo but I never found/thought of a design that I loved enough to get put on me until my skin rots off in a casket. I had a few rules if I did end up getting one:
1. Had to have DEEP personal significance (so no “I was bored so I got it!”)
2. No text; it comes off as tacky to me
3. Had to be a unique design. no way was I getting a tattoo that someone else in the world had
4. Not bigger than my fist because I didn’t want to have a giant tattoo. Just not aesthetically pleasing to me
so for years I had minor ideas of possible tats but never fell in love with one. Then in 2020, I was on a hike in Alaska and took a pot gummy. It was in a way an emotional experience; as you probably could’ve guessed from my Thread of Love musings, I’ve struggled my entire life with finding a relationship and during the hike itself I (overdramatically but still authentically) had cried a couple times, all tears of joy around appreciation for my my life, the world/nature and my family. I’m not a spiritual person but it was really an experience that really changed my appreciation for life
Anywho, because of this, while on the hike I started texting my older brother and younger sister about tattoo ideas since they both have tats. I ended up realizing that I wanted to get one of an animal, then one of an American animal in a sort of American Indian aesthetic. Eagle, wolf and bear all felt…corny, generic and reminded me of the weird tshirts my grandma would get my siblings and I. Then I thought of bison and it was perfect. A unique, sort of forgotten animal that’s a symbol of the Americas. Stubborn, strong, confident…all things I either am or want to remind myself to be. And while I hate text tattoos, the tat I have represents the phrase “fortune favors the bold” which is a reminder for myself to always be me
as per this specific design, I googled abstract Bison images until I found this one. Then I delegated to the artist to convert it into a tattoo
there. Have fun ya peeners
