Wow. If we win out, (which we won't beat Miami), and finish 9-4 with 3 of those losses to current top 25 teams, with the injuries earlier this year, etc, and it considered sucky, then I don't know what to say. This is Pitt. We are not a blue blood.
They aren't winning out. Miami will curbstomp them then they will get beat by a mediocre team in a bowl game.

They had a easy schedule this year in conference. Super easy. They played one other legit team which was Tennessee. They got beat by crap teams in bad games. No one improved except Izzy. The offense is super boring to watch unless Izzy breaks one.

There were expectations this year and they failed in every way to even get close to them. Last year was an outlier because of Kenny and Addison.

The games they win they basically fall into a win. They try their hardest to blow it.

The record they have now is over inflated. They aren't even that good.

We'll see how it plays out. The offense sucked. The D, with their injuries, was still pretty good.

And elite QB is typically needed for a year like last year. That is really hard to get at Pitt.

I don't know why I'm so angry with this season. It might be because I just find the team boring and just unwatchable most times.

The offense is like watching paint dry it's not even fun. The D makes plays sometimes sure but most often its then getting smoked in coverage.

Yeah this season sucked way worse than the record indicates and I'll be surprised if they don't lose the next 2 games.

Miami is beatable. They aren't focused, lots of sideline strutting against Clemson when they made a big play (but never was close to a lead in that game). Lots of post-whistle pushing, late hits, and so on. Most of it didn't get called against Clemson, but if Pitt gets a few of those calls, it could lead to a Pitt win.

That assumes they'll feel the need to bring swagger against Pitt.

Miami is definitely beatable. The issue is, Pitt just never seems to be able to do it.

Someone tweeted Pitt's record vs each team in the ACC after it's first 10 years this week. We have a below .500 record against 4 of them. BC (1-2), NC State, UNC and Miami. I think UNC and Miami are both like 2-7/ 2-8 (still need to play Miami).

Every other team, we are .500 or above. Miami and UNC are just thorns in our side.

The original question was, if they finish 9-4, is that considered a good season. I'd say yes, only because 9-4 at this point seems insurmountable and even with how the season played out and the expectations, it's still 9 wins. Recruits will see 20 wins in 2 years and it may sway a guy or two. The future after this year doesn't look so bright, so give me 9-4.

I didn't realize this until a distant relative of mine, from the Miami area, mentioned how Miami owns Pitt. For some reason I saw last season as an anomaly and could only remember beating them when they were #2 in the nation.

I think the biggest issue with recruits right now isn't record it's no one wants to play in this awful archaic offense Pitt is running.

9 wins, 8 wins, 7 wins, 10 wins etc....no recruit wants to play in this offense with how it's currently set up.

I do agree with this. Our D recruiting hasn't been bad.

After last year and the way the offense was run, I was hoping at least the strategy would be the same, but then they hired Cignetti and did a 180. And no one wants to play in this.

On paper this is a good matchup for Pitt, especially if Van Dyke is out. But I'm still betting Miami

Pitt is 4-7 ATS this year. Miami is 2-9. Truly a battle of wills

One charge was dropped, and the other was reduced to a summary offense.

I think this team can get to nine wins but they're going to need to do it the same way they've won pretty much all of their games this year. It will be ugly. They're going to need points from their defense and/or a special teams TD, and from the running game. Any points they get from the passing game will feel like a bonus.

If they get to nine wins, I think it will perfectly encapsulate the Narduzzi era. It's a lot like 1) winning the Coastal 2) with a 7-7 overall record. Or 1) winning a conference championship and 10 games in a season where 2) you managed to lose in mind-numbingly bad defensive fashion to Directional Michigan at home.

I do agree on points that that Kenny & skullman80 hit on earlier.

1. Too many wins this year felt not like wins last year, where they were just better than the opposition and proved it. Too many wins this year felt like games they played not to lose and just thankfully ran out of time before they could.

2. The offense. Izzy took his place this year among some of the great Pitt backs of the last 20 years, but this offense in general has been "Bad NFL teams" levels of boring. Blame Cignetti. Blame Slovis. Blame the receivers. Blame the OL. Blame the position coaches. For the most part this year, they've been mediocre. At best. This feels like the same $hit sandwich that was the first year of Watson-ball, and we all know there's probably one more full season of it to endure, especially if it's true that they had to kick in extra money to get Cignetti out of his BC deal. To that end...

3. The overall feeling that not many players got better & there's something to build on for next year. Veteran players on the OL and DL came back but many of them stagnated. Some played worse. None of the younger receivers from WR4 down elevated their games. Slovis is in his 4th year as QB1 for a P5 program, but he inexplicably still oscillates from play to play between a QB who can make NFL reads & throws to someone who would struggle playing Division III.

I DO think there were some steps forward. Hammond has looked solid despite being hurt all year and I think he's a capable replacement for Izzy as RB1. Wayne has been mostly good and if he's back, that's a plus. Mumpfield would be a good WR3 if they can add a more legitimate WR1. The OL got progressively better. I thought two of the younger LBs - Kamara and Deshields - got better as the season went on (both reminded me of Dennis in his first year as a regular).

But beyond that, I just don't know. Like I said in a previous post, this program is in a weird spot right now and I think it's going to be a pretty eventful offseason.
