Crushing Miami does make up for some of the bummers earlier in the season

Happy to lose my Miami bet. Let's win one of these damn bowl games and end the season ranked

So statistically this was basically the third best offense during the Narduzzi era. He looked dumb at times but Slovis looked lightyears better yesterday than most of the season. This team should be ranked and playing in the ACC Championship. Stupidity got in the way.

Suck it Kentucky. Pitt men with the 2-1 upset after being down to 10 men because of pro-SEC officiating despite not even having soccer.

Not that Pitt really deserves to be ranked. But the coaches poll had them at 29 last week and they drop 3 spots to 32 after beating the piss out of Miami

I have no idea how the NIL world is affecting high school recruiting at this point, but if we need to decide between spending our limited funds on high schoolers or proven portal guys, gimme the portal.

PL did a good job putting some of the de-commitments into context.
S Shelton Lewis - committed to Pitt in June. A few weeks later, he got an offer from Clemson and changed his commitment to Clemson in August.
WR Daidren Zipperer - committed to Pitt in September after Pitt lost the (NIL) battle for Hykeem Williams. The week after he committed to Pitt, he took an official visit to Utah and a few weeks later, changed to Utah. From what some have said, this didn't surprise the coaches. He was never going to stay with Pitt.
OT Colin Van Rooy - Decommitted in October. From what PL said, he struggled this year and Pitt decided to move on.
QB Kenny Minchey - Was solid with Pitt until he got the ND offer. Part of his decision was related to disenchantment with the way the Pitt offense looked this year, but a big part of it was that he just wanted to play for ND. He made his decision knowing that ND already has a 4-star/5-star QB committed for 2024.
WR Zion Fowler - Originally a Brennan Marion recruit. Some say Minchey's decision to leave influenced him, but there were also apparently some mixed opinions of him among the coaching staff. Supposedly Narduzzi and Cignetti liked him, but Underwood wasn't sold on him (Fowler's a NJ kid and Underwood never offered him when he was at Rutgers).
CB Brice Pollock - Rumors that this was primarily NIL-related. He took an official visit to Ole Miss. There are rumors that Auburn and Mississippi State are interested in him as well. He's also Jaylon Barden's cousin, and Barden just left via the portal.
OL Philip Daniels - This was a weird commitment from the start. He was apparently set to commit to Minnesota when he announced instead that he was going to Pitt. Minnesota really wanted him and kept pushing. Not sure how much talk of Borbley's rumored departure played into this.
As much fun as the June recruiting blitzes are, this is the problem they run into with them. Pitt gets these kids early, which is great, but then blueblood programs pick up on some of them, and Pitt has to fight them off all year. It's tough enough competing with brand schools for players that may never end up starting there, but it's even tougher when your passing game looks like something from the 1970s for 75% of the season. Throw NIL into the mix now and it's going to make things even more challenging.
That's part of the issue going forward, because this is where it gets ridiculous. Their top remaining recruit is believed to be Jordan Bass, who is currently rated as a 3-star prospect by Rivals. Pitt projects him as their next Sirvocea Dennis-type LB. Bass and his father have made no secret that NIL is playing a role in his recruitment, and there are rumors that someone associated with VT was bringing a 6-figure NIL offer to the table. He's said he's committed to Pitt, at least for now, but this is what's being thrown around for a kid that's a 3-star recruit. Pitt is believed to have matched or beaten that offer, and also had to do the same with Isaiah Neal, who they see as an impact-caliber DT.
It's also not a problem that's exclusive to Pitt. Jimmy Franks supposedly has had seven decommits from this class as well. A few days after having their asses handed to them, Miami just flipped a kid from Michigan.
It still doesn't lessen the sting of this. Pitt can and will replace the kids they lost either through other offers or the portal, and chances are we may never really hear much of most of these decommits after this recruiting season wraps up, but it's a weird new world for college football. I'm not sure I like where this is going for programs at Pitt's relative level.

- Minchey is a moron.
- NIL money for scrub recruits is going to nuke this program, which is why I already said if you're gonna have to pay for players spend that money in the portal.

Rich people don't stay rich by spending six figures on fringe investments like 3 star football players. This system is not going to sustain itself. I get that rich guys are rich, but they want to see a return (I.e. these recruits contribute to winning football someday). I don't see that happening

DB Khalil Anderson to the portal.
Anderson was a kid that the PL writers were really high on when he committed in June 2020. He had a number of nagging injury issues and got passed on the depth chart at both CB and S as a result.
