Andujar had pedigree as the #59 prospect in baseball and finished 2nd in ROY voting behind the best player in MLB history. Then lost the next 2 years to injury and struggled to earn regular playing time as part of his recovery on a stacked Yankees team.

Chavis had a negative career WAR before coming to the Pirates.

They are not the same.
Not sure this argument holds. Chavis was a first round pick and former top 100 guy. Their standing is not that much different.

Key takeaway is that andrujar hasn't been "terrible" since his one very good mlb year. It's certainly in the small sample size territory. Bad enough long enough to be concerned and that's why the pirates were able to get him but I'm interested in a flyer on him. Was chavis under control through next year?

Andujar with an RBI double.

People are saying he might be the best pirates DH of all time

He hasn't really even played. <400 plate appearances since 2018.

He stinks in the field and the Yankees have better options to DH... and these are household names like Stanton, Donaldson, Carpenter, and Judge...

It's a low risk high reward move in every sense of the word

I like the move, I would like it less if they didn't ditch Chavis.

Giving Andujar a rehearsal in 2023 is a good move in my book, but I want fewer of those types on the active roster going forward. Apologies if I wasn't clear on that. It's not like a narrow grouping that I am placing him and Chavis in.

next year

C - Perez hopefully
1B - ???
2B - Castro
3B - Hayes
SS - Cruz
LF - ??
CF - Reynolds
RF - ??

Sign a corner outfielder, let Mitchell and Suwinski compete for ABs in the other spot - Bae can be a super utility guy. I don't totally hate it. In a real city they'd sign a 1B and 2 SP and have a not bad team

Before today he was 276/330/541/841 with 6 HRs and 12 xBH over the last 4 weeks. I'll take it, though the 33% K rate is alarming.

Just was joking although it's pretty true. The 4-5 game was dinks and dunks and the one before i think 2 hits were as well? That double was a popup. Didn't know they were playing now. He just missed a grand slam

I'm very happy with Cruz's development. People were complaining about the k% and somehow not understanding that a player improves at his age.

If people had seen Endy with a .725 ops after the first half of this season at A+ they'd have been writing him off as a backup

Watching someone struggle on tv for 200 at bats makes having patience a lot harder than glancing at box scores

I'm always optimistic to a fault. I still want to give oliva another chance. So I'm all in on cruz

I know I know, just being sarcastic

Also Bryse Wilson had a Maddux in reach but let up two base runners in the 8th. Going to need some luck now

I'm into this as long as their solution to signing a corner OF and 1B aren't like greg Allen and Josh van Meter...

Do they even need 2 SP? Can they start the year with roansy, Keller, Brubaker, oviedo and just sign one?

That would feel good in a way. Trade them to rebuild and then sign them when they're ready to spend. Sneaky plan noone saw coming

I'm sure. I stopped following baseball. In retrospect I think it's gerrit cole's career that did it. To know how it would play out and then have to watch it eh.

But how about grab marte while we're at it. He's a favorite
