I know it's cold downtown tonight, but the stadium looks empty. It's depressing but expected and well-deserved.

Yes. It sounds as if you can throw someone in the covid list with symptoms and then activate immediately with a negative test

Box score showed attendance around 8k. That seems high.

Pat Lackey has been going on about Clay Holmes over the last few days, to the point that I decided to look into Holmes' season with the Yanks so far. It appears that the Pirates have lost another middling pitcher that turned into a good pitcher in a competent organization.

It looks like he is down to two pitches instead of 3-4 pitches, and is hitting his spots. Obviously, a small sample size.

Castillo seems to be a worthwhile piece; Park is meh. But it stands to reason: is Ben Cherington not a good GM?

Clay Holmes, Cocaine Mitch, and Tyler Glasnow. All guys drafted by GMNH, who loved to preach fastball command in the minor leagues. All three guys had pretty comparable numbers in the minors. None of those three guys had anything resembling command of anything as a Pirate in the major leagues.

Right. I was convinced FGMNH was competent at finding talent. He was well below competent and developing said talent.

Obviously he didn't have first hand experience in the development, but didn't realize his team of coaches sucked. This is why I thought a complete blowup of the system was necessary. GMBC may or may not suck, but it's going to take a couple more years to find out.

not sure what you mean with comparable. i mean holmes sucked and always sucked through the minors. rose through the ranks based solely on stuff not performance. few ks and too many walks. i think keller before his first debut put up excellent bb numbers and high ranking ks and whip. and glasnow was uncomparable to anyone. insane k and h/9 but a little worse than holmes bb numbers. going off memory.

keller was the only surprise to me to have no command. i guess his fastball was just getting taken to the river every other pitch that he started trying anything else. holmes was finally coming around last year i think with better performance. better than i ever expected. and glasnow was always going to take a bit to straighten out at the majors imo. embarrassing how quickly he turned around though. i hold their inability to translate great AAA performances + talent into commodities at the mlb level against them very much though. and keller/glasnow are gleaming garbage examples

Comparable might have been the wrong word to use. They all threw about the same innings. Holmes had the worst numbers of the three, but by no means were they awful. His K’s rate wasn’t near the other two, but then again, he wasn’t a highly rated prospect like those other two. So let’s say that their numbers were commensurate with the prospect ranking. But all three were especially awful in the majors, and all three had comparable command issues in the majors.

I always figured Holmes was cheating at the starting of 2021 when he had a good run through June and was usual Clayton from June through the trade to the Yankees. Now he is good.

Nah. He had 3 bad outings in the 2nd half

0.2ip 6er
0.1ip 5er
1.0ip 3er

Mostly because he's not good

Edit... 3.48 era if you take out those 2 shellings
