He's not wrong. At all.

He should still be more professional though.
Eck is retiring at the end of the season so he's gonna empty the barrels with his opinion. And really, there needs to be more analysts across baseball that dropkick this franchise and the way they operate. For the last few years, Pittsburgh and Baltimore were running parallel paths -- two franchises with amazing ballparks and historically good fanbases that would fill those amazing ballparks but a product that was beyond terrible. Well, the O's have turned it around and built a farm system and not jettisoned their best prospects right as they become stars for middling prospects. Meanwhile, Nutting continues his tank-for-profit efforts and nobody can step in to stop him. It's a frickin disgrace.

As bad as the O's franchise has been, you could at least find years where they spent money and tried to compete. They failed miserably doing so, but at least they tried. I won't give the O's too much credit for what they are doing now, because the Pirates showed from 2013-2015 that you can eventually catch lightning in a bottle if you try enough times. If the O's can sustain this success a la Tampa, then they deserve the credit.

DVE played the entire Eckersley rant this morning. Both he and the PbP guy laughed at it, but he wasn't really that far out of bounds with his comments. He mentioned the Royals doing something similar by playing their prospects, but at least they were prospects and not these no-name dumpster dives mixed in. Then he went right at Nutting by mentioning how they don't spend at all, and haven't in some time. Still think that is more a byproduct of what MLB and the players union have allowed to happen, and we were just stuck with a terrible owner.

Was it out of line as somebody employed indirectly by MLB? Sure. But if what you say is true about him retiring at the end of the season, good on him. Less ballsy but something that needs to be said more often.

The MLB season is entirely too long. It's almost September. The Pirates season has been over since April. Somehow there are still 40+ games remaining. It's tortuous.
