Luckily, my MIL is visiting this week. She tried all the tricks that made my wife sleep as a newborn, and they're all working. I feel a bit like that kid that bought the video game walk-through guide back in middle school.
They can only handle so much whiskey per day... :slug:

Source of the post Our first didn’t sleep through the night until he was 11 months old and still rarely does.
Ours didn't even sleep in a crib until 6 months old, and would only sleep in a swing. That was not a fun time.
Same. He slept in a bouncer seat (the seat off a swing that you could bounce) until he physically could not fit in it anymore. Ridiculous

You’re lucky. We’ve found that having more people than just us around is infinitely more difficult. Breastfeeding n’at.

Google “Robert Hamilton hold” and go home and blow our wife’s mind. This hold has calmed every baby I’ve ever tried it on. Probably seven or eight different babies.

When my kids were newborns, I was an excellent swaddler. Some may even say they were wrapped too tight, but the kids survived...and slept.

The first time my oldest slept through the night I remember waking up at like 3am scared to death and running over to the crib and nervously sticking my finger under her nose to make sure she was breathing.

It was nice having our in-laws there, but after a few days, I was ready for the house to empty the hell out. I was really excited to *truly* start being a mom and dad on our own.

Re: sleeping--our daughter never slept in a bassinet. @malkintent and his Mrs. recommended this thing (or a similar variation):

That was an absolute life saver. She took to that instantly. After a while, we had to transition her to the crib as she got bigger, but like I mentioned that transition was made much easier by her sleeping on her stomach.

Wish I had that for all my kids. Two youngest had that and they loved it.

We used that thing (rock n play??) for my daughter. I would have paid 10x whatever it cost. That thing was amazing.

That was something (a swing/rocker of some sort) my MIL said put my wife to sleep immediately, and seeing all of her other magic, we bought one immediately. I'm picking it up today after work.

Yes, that rock and play was a life saver for us. We probably used it a bit too much for our oldest. We'd put him in there even when he was awake so we could get our house ready to sell.

Another walk and HBP fest for my little leaguer, this time a loss and in 40 temps with heavy winds. Watching baseball when it's cold and windy is bad. Playing in it may be worse, especially when there's no contact.

Agreed. I keep thinking it’s going to break, then we get another cold stretch.

Got the okay to no longer wake the baby up for scheduled feedings... if she sleeps, she sleeps. Which is awesome. Also the doc suggested to start taking her out of the house, especially on nice days, or go the grocery store in the non-busy times. Go to Target. Go wherever, which for my wife is awesome. She's very much an up and at 'em kind of person, and being cooped up in the house is not good for her. As soon as the doc said she could take our kid places she looks at me and goes "I'm going to Target right after this..."

Good thing tomorrow is pay day, I guess.

Chaperoning my son's third grade class to Pirate's Voyage down in Myrtle Beach.

This day confirms that other people's kids are horrible. Well, present company on FAF not included.

I’m on the third day of chaperoning my daughter’s four day DC trip. Exhausting, but good. I teach at the school, but don’t teach these kids, so I’m in a teacher/parent role. A little more responsibility, but didn’t have to pay, so that’s nice. I’ve been here a few times, but two new things that i really liked: Pentagon Memorial and the Newseum. The photo displays at the Newseum are amazing.

How old are the kids on the trip?

Our seventh graders go to DC each spring.
