We’re having the birthday party for our youngest, turning 8, at The Main Event....he invited enough friends that I don’t have to worry about hurting myself playing laser tag.

my kids are 4 and 6. watching them grow older has been amazing. gain some perspective, goalie boy. they're going to be the most interesting people in your life, for the rest of your life. do nothing but enjoy it.

with that said...my daughter eventually having a boyfriend is a problem.

man, sometimes i'm jealous of people with young daughters, but that article shad posted puts things back in perspective. I just have to deal with the occasional licking of the toilet rim, "daddy I ate playdough!!" and brothers beating each other up.

My 6 year old daughter has told us that she doesn’t want to go to high school because, and I quote, “that’s where the handsome boys are”.

I’ve got two daughters, 15 and about to turn 18. From time to time I’ve wondered what it would have been like to have a boy, but feel really lucky with my girls. Pretty sure the hardest day of my life will be when I drop my oldest off at college.

I do appreciate my boys' ages of 3 and 5. They are so innocent, if I ignore all the fighting. That they still want to give daddy a kiss goodnight warms my soul. They are also super excited for "No Girls Allowed" night tonight as my wife is staying with friends at a hotel.

Driving to the daycare with the 5-year old philosopher today:

"Daddy, what happens when people die?"
"That's a very interesting question, and I don't think anybody knows for sure. Some people believe that,-"
"Daddy, I think it's simple. Those bodies do to the garbage!"

My oldest son turns 13 in May. I noticed a behavior change in him after THE FIRST DAY of middle school last year. Instant dadhole.

He went from being a sweet kid, to a pouty, moody, obnoxious teenager in about the length of a school day. It modulates over longer breaks away from his peers like long weekends, breaks, and so on. But by Thursday night of a school week, he's insufferable.

I assumed it was purely because of peer pressure at the medium security prisons they call middle schools here in South Carolina, but Freddy's kids are homeschooled (I think). So it just is hormonal.

Not good.

I'm cool, compared to my wife who goes nuclear with him for every misstep. She's a teacher, and demands near perfection with school...and when it doesn't happen....look out.

Ah, my first panic moment tonight. I guess making it almost 7 months before the first one is a success?

Laying in the living room, luckily the TV shut itself off after the game. Surfing Craigslist when I hear what sounds like the cat hacking up a hairball. But no it's my son puking and what sounds like aspirating on it. I run in and he's covered in it, all over his face. He likes again all over me and then two more times before I'm writing this. We gave him oatmeal in his bottle for the first time tonight so thinking (hoping) that he just had a full stomach l.

It's stuff like that which would make me basically have the baby monitor next to my ear as I tried to sleep while also listening for every slight noise throughout the night.

Yeah that's what makes it worse is my wife DID have the monitor and I had to go wake her up even after I flew in the room, grabbed him and started talking to him.

Oof. I'm a light sleeper, so any noises are likely to wake me up. When our daughter was 2 or so, she used to force herself to vomit because she didn't want to go to sleep. Happened every single night for a month or so, and most of the time more than once per night. I could always tell when she was about to start, and never got to her crib in time.

I'd say you're probably right with the full stomach. Same exact thing happened with our oldest around the same age. His first food was avocado, and he loved it. So we gave him half an avocado. It was way too much fat for his body to handle, and the amount of puke was astounding. He was fine after that.

LOL. Funny you say that. He had a half an avocado at like 6:30-7:00, then a bottle with oatmeal at 8:15. He's fine this morning, so that's what we're chalking it up to. He slept in our room last night regardless, just in case.

But he does usually eat food around 6:30 just maybe not a half of an avocado. I think my wife just overdid it today that's all.

I'd chalk it up to the half avocado. We told our pediatrician, and they laughed and said it was 3-4 times what he should have at that age.

mini-mork has 3 very annoying things going on right now.

1) He had his first bought of Pink Eye on Friday, so we had to immediately pick him up from daycare.
2) He has GERD, and any formula we give him, he immediately spits up until his next feed, where he restarts the process, thus he's not gaining weight, which opens a door of new problems.
3) The doctor put him on Alementum, and GOD DAMN is that the worst stuff ever imaginable to give a child. The smell is horrendous.

I remember when our pediatrician recommended the flavorless pedialite for when the kids were younger....I guess taste buds don’t really work at that young of an age.
