Confirmed case of Hands Foot and Mouth earlier this week at daycare. Got the call today that my son has a rash that appeared on hands and mouth in the morning, and to pull him out. Would be the first potential case of this for us, is it awful, taking him to doctors now?

Isn't that just an EpiPen?

The only thing they can do is confirm it. Ibuprofen/acetaminophen is the only thing you can give your kid to help with fevers.

Yeah, it is. I don't know why we got this one and not an EpiPen branded one. I can only assume they are the same cost.

Depending on the kid's age, Benadryl as well. I believe some kind of lotion like Calamine may be prescribed.

Both my kids got it as well as my wife, her mother and her sister while on a beach trip 3 years ago. My father in law and I somehow avoided it.

Good luck. Kid will still be running around, mine was when he had it, but you’ll have to keep him out of daycare for 7-10 days I believe.

The biggest thing is going to be making sure you wash your hands like crazy, and frequently. Start cleaning everything he touches.

Yeah. Our house was basically fumigated with Lysol.

No hand foot and mouth, just a virus that produced a rash on his chest, that was magnified because of drool.

Auvi Q talks to you. At least it did before it was recalled in 2015. EpiPens are cheaper, but once all the insurance and rebates go through, think it’s a wash.

It shouldn’t cost that much, but that’s a separate debate.

Yeah, it is slick. Dr said it'd be covered 100%.. so I was surprised to get a bill for $60. I guess it's coinsurance/copay.

What's a real crock is the $181 nebulizer I had to get from the doctor. The same one was $29.99 on Amazon.

Opinion needed

So once lil mac turned 1, he is subject to a few new guidelines at daycare. One of which is nap time is only from 1-3.

Lil mac loves to sleep. He goes to bed religiously at 8 and typically wakes up at 7 +/- a half hour every morning. On the weekend he often naps for 1-2 hours anywhere from 10-1 and again between 2-5 depending on the first nap.

He is an absolute bear come 6 o'clock during the week and I'm convinced it's thanks to only getting one nap at daycare.

I'm sure the reason for the policy is daycare wants him to be engaged, learn, interact with kids, play, yadda yadda.

So if this was your kid. Would you just live with it for the 3 days a week he's in daycare or ask them to let him nap in the morning?

Seems early to regiment the nap time like that. When my kids were in daycare I don’t think they started that routine nap until 2.

Would he go down earlier at night and still sleep through so he’s rested in the morning enough to make it until the afternoon nap?

Yeah I mean there are mornings he gets up around 530 or 6. We always make sure to tell daycare this because he absolutely needs a nap if he's up that early. There are nights he goes to bed at 7 so he's still getting 10 hours, just gets him out of whack

This is typically what we do, but it kind of sucks from my perspective, that if he goes to bed at 7, I get like 30 minutes of time with him when he's not eating, I'm cooking or cleaning. I get home at 530, cook until 6, eat and clean up by 630, then he's in bath and bed by 7.

Nah. They started regimented nap times almost from the get go at our daycare. Granted the little ones often fall asleep whenever, but our daycare started one nap a day at 1 as well when our daughter moved to the mobile room.

Routine is good for kids. He’ll adjust to the one nap a day. Look at it from the daycare’s perspective as well. You’ve got a room full of kids. All of them napping at the same time is the only feasible way to do it.

Bingo. I remember with our daughter, I actually loved the regimen because she slept through the night just about every night. On the weekends, she would often take two naps a day until she was around 18 months.

But yeah, you have to look at it from the day care's perspective. It would be impossible to have a bunch of different toddlers on different nap schedules...how would you even manage that? Our daughter's day care had the same nap time (1-3) and it worked out great.

We moved bedtime up an hour whenever daycare went to 1 nap a day.

I definitely saw both sides. Was just more or less curious if that's standard practice, which sounds like it is. So we'll deal

The worst is when your kid has started to move out of a phase and the daycare hasn't yet. So they've moved to one nap on the weekend with you but are still getting two at daycare...and then they're singing and bouncing in their bed until 10:30 at night. Luckily Baby Shark hadn't come out by then, or else I can totally see two of my three up late singing it at the top of their lungs. The other one would prefer to act like a cat and meow incessantly.

From damn near the get go lil mac's been a good sleeper. He's a maniac after his bath now, for like a half hour. Takes him that long to drink his milk. When he was a few months younger, he'd chug the milk and instantly go to sleep. Now it's a half hour to drink the milk and fall asleep 20 mins later. We just start the process earlier now, that's all.
