Out of curiosity I looked up our local district policy and it is "turns 5 on or before September 1". So I guess we will cross that bridge when we get there.

I'm too lazy to look and see if I raged about our carlines here, but they are awful. Especially the first month or so of school, and after Christmas.

Before my oldest could drive himself to school, I would take him and his brother, pick up a friend of his, go to the middle school, then to my son and his friend's high school 30 minutes from our house.

The middle school dropoff window is 30 minutes, from 7:45-8:15, and the high school window is 7:50-8:20. You see where I'm going with this.

The middle school, a den of scum and villany and terrible administration, has no one out directing traffic. My big issue is the dropoff area is a flat U shaped covered walkway, that can fit 8-10 cars, easily. EVERY **** DIPSHIT pulls up in the middle or towards the close end to dropoff - leaving 5-6+ cars unable to dropoff. So 2-3 cars unload at a time, and little Johnny Dipshit takes 30 seconds to get his fat ass out of the car, go to the trunk to get his tuba, goes back and kisses his grandmother (because they are all grandparents/great aunts/uncles, because no one moves the **** away) and then the car pulls away.

For my kids, it's like the **** landing craft scene on Saving Private Ryan..."30 seconds! God be with you! GO GO GO!!!!" My kid has his bag, hand on the seatbelt release, ready to bail from the car so I can get on with my **** day.

God I hate it. My Fitbit says I'm burning fat because this discussion raised my heart rate enough lol

Of course, the rimjob administrators are all out in the afternoons waving traffic so they can empty the school quickly.

Fortunately, we have a friend that takes the middle schooler and my older son drives himself...so I've freed up 70 minutes of stress and anxiety from my day.

My wife is a September birthday and skipped 1st grade. She started college at 16 (turned 17 a month later). This is the way. She'll have 30 years in public schools, fully vested state retirement at 51. I'm jealous.

The lack of bus drivers and low number of riders in our district (see all of the underemployed grandparents/relatives noted in my rant above) makes bus riding very difficult, even before COVID. My middle schooler needs to be out at the stop between 6:15-6:20 to get the bus in order to get to school by 8 or whatever. We live 8 minutes away from the school. It doesn't make sense, unfortunately.

And my other son, with the school 30 minutes away? Even earlier, and wouldn't get home until after 5. No thanks.

Ours did, too, until covid. Then I started dropping her off and realized that it was more convenient. She still takes the bus home, though.

Yeah, if we don't move our little guy won't need to ride the bus. The elementary school is a 5 minute walk.

Three of the elementary schools in the area - my daughter's included - was in a lockdown for a few hours after an armed robbery near one of them. One person in custody, and I hope they get the book thrown at them for doing it in a school zone.

I’ve had baby meow home since Tuesday because of covid exposure. I gotta tell you, she makes my days so much better. Just having another person at home has been a big boost to my mental health. And she is a breeze to take care of. Crayons and paper. Her Barbies. Netflix on in the background. She can get her own snacks and drinks. Someone remind me why I am paying for daycare

Kiddo is turning 4 in April and we're starting to think about the summer. I don't think a beach vacation would be very fun. We'd just be pretty much hanging out somewhere else instead of hanging out at home. I was thinking amusement parks, science centers/museums, maybe Legoland in New York?

If there's any hidden gems within the 4-6 hour drive of central PA, I'd love to hear them.

No joke, taking our son to the beach (OCMD) for 4 days was an absolute blast and yea it was work, but I've got some awesome memories/pictures of him having an absolute blast.

We quit the bus for COVID although littlest Franchise rides it home sometimes.

She starts 9th grade next year. The middle school is maybe 10 minutes roundtrip, the high school is more than twice as far. The high school bus picks up at 7:00- right now we don't even wake her up till 6:30 and it is a struggle to get her out the door at 8:15 to beat the 8:25 tardy bell.

Our older two were boys, my wife tells me getting a girl out the door on this schedule will be a new circle of hell for four years. She is an August birthday and we started her late, so she will turn 16 shortly before her sophomore year, praise Jesus. Hope she passes her test.

She is also already giving me crap about having to drive the 2009 Legacy to school, more than a year and a half out. Yeah, that's what there is, it's that or the bus.

lol total back in my day, I drove a busted vehicle from the early 90's in 2003 to get to point a and b. A subaru legacy is a good get.

Sounds about right... I tried doing a work from home with my little one while she was home from daycare (she wasn't sick, just doing the 24 hour isolation period after symptoms had subsided) and it didn't go well. I couldn't get anything done. I'd imagine a year from now (she'd be 4.5) it would be different.

And as far as what you're paying daycare for.... I know you're joking, but there are plenty of studies showing the benefits of pre-k education.

We are probably one of the furthest residences away from the school, so it should be fun once it gets to that. The primary center and high school are beside each other. I have a buddy who grew up down the road and he says the bus picked him up at 655 for a 735 start time at high school. Not sure if that start time is still the same or not. Primary center (K-2) doesn't start til like 9:15 I don't think.

Problems we will have eventually. Quicker than we think I guess.
