No mothers in the hospital with my three but my mother stayed with us for a week after the third one and that was a big help.

This is more about the (unhealthy) relationship between mother and son than the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter.
Mom feels she is "losing her boy" to his wife, and wants to use this to stay close to him...while driving his wife away.
As a survivor of such tactics (not in the delivery room, however), this is exactly what this is.
That being said, I was the only family member in the delivery room(s) for both of my boys' births. Wasn't even a thought to having either mother up in there...

I'd be interested to hear a woman's perspective on this scenario.

Didn't you have to deal with this for your own kid?

Swim lessons are unexpectedly weird. You never know when to start them. You have no clue what actual progress is being made or how close they are to being done. And you're sitting there staring at a teenager in a bathing suit play with your kids for 20 minutes. Dance lessons are similar but slightly more clothing, not as necessary and less finality. Both are certainly fuel for plenty of "don't be the creepy dad" mantras.
And if any of you are thinking of starting swim, guys make way better teachers. If only because they will get their hair wet.

Major league agree Shmenguin.
Especially about the teacher part, it's why I made my wife start taking the youngest, his instructor was a 16 year old well endowed female who I know knew what she had and did not dissuade the onlookers. Major league inappropriate and uncomfortable.

I think all the teachers at our pool are college kids, so I don't feel vulnerable to being accosted by the authorities while my kids are doing kickboard stuff. we had a smoke show to start, but she retired and was replaced by a dude. I felt ok about the switch. My eyes are not always programmed to do the gentlemanly thing. I occasionally appreciate being protected from myself.Major league agree Shmenguin.

We’re probably going to have our daughter start taking swim lessons after dance class [FINALLY] ends after June. Even she’s over dance class at this point, and the only reason I make her go to the classes is because they’re already paid for.

I went to breastfeeding class this weekend with my wife. Did any of yinz go to this? I was the only husband there for the 5 pregnant ladies that were attending. I learned way more than I ever thought I would and found it very helpful. Just thought it odd that no other husbands were there.

What are you even doing.
You have nothing to do with that process. In fact, because she's nursing, you are barely even a parent for like 3 months. You are a diaper changer. And the guy who holds the baby while your wife showers. Go take those classes.

Don’t listen to the haters. Think you did the right thing. It can be an incredibly difficult process, and having a better understanding of what she’s going through can be helpful in supporting her.I went to breastfeeding class this weekend with my wife.
